The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance was established in 1972 by nine Philadelphia cultural institutions to coordinate historical and cultural activities for the Bicentennial Celebration. Today, with a membership of over 260 non-profit arts and culture organizations, the Cultural Alliance:
- Advocates for positive public sector, business and foundation policies and funding priorities at the local, state and federal levels on behalf of its members;
- Conducts the "Campaign for Culture," an umbrella marketing campaign for the cultural industry designed to increase awareness and attendance at Greater Philadelphia cultural institutions;
- Administers two grant programs to help increase access to funds for organizations and artists in southeastern Pennsylvania; and,
- Provides services to member organizations designed to help them reduce expenses or increase revenues
Arts and cultural institutions agree that their long-term goals are more attainable when they work together. Arts and culture are critical strategic assets to the Greater Philadelphia regions economic, educational and social development. Leveraging cooperation among business, community and elected leaders, audiences and the general public is the focus of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.
