Establishing relationships with the regions decision makers can be difficult for many of our members, The Cultural Alliance forges ties for the cultural community as a whole, providing its member organizations with opportunities to meet and exchange information and ideas with funders, politicians, the private sector, the media and each other.
The Cultural Alliance works proactively to gather the information needed to "make the case for culture" by initiating and participating in ongoing research projects; publicizing information on issues affecting the cultural environment; and producing a bi-monthly newsletter discussing legislative, educational, and advocacy issues affecting arts and culture organizations.
Advocacy and research presents us with a critical opportunity to promote the strength and impact of the cultural sector. The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is uniquely qualified and positioned to take the lead in helping our industry become a recognized and valued educational resource and economic engine for the region.
Who are Arts & Culture Advocates?
Arts & Culture Advocates are those who believe in the importance of the arts and cultural institutions to our society. They are the creators, audiences, participants, organizers, leaders, educators, researchers, students, and others who make up our cultural wealth. Advocates speak up for and defend the preservation and development of arts and cultural organizations and encourage participation. Furthermore, advocates nurture new advocates and get them involved in promoting arts and culture to others. They build networks of advocates who work together, coordinating campaigns to create social and governmental environments that are favorable to the arts and our cultural institutions.
Use the Cultural Alliances advocacy web pages to research your legislators and cultural policy, and to advise you how to communicate with legislators and deliver influencing advocacy messages about arts and culture. Feel free to call the Cultural Alliance with any questions about advocacy or issues you wish to address. We have experienced, skilled, and knowledgeable staff members who are continuously monitoring a wide variety of arts and culture issues on the local, state, and federal levels. We can help you with planning and implementing advocacy efforts. The Cultural Alliance also spearheads arts advocacy efforts on the local level, bands together with other Pennsylvania organizations on the state level, and brings southeastern Pennsylvania together to work national advocacy issues under the direction of national arts advocacy organizations. Consider the Cultural Alliance a means for creating a broad base of grassroots support for cultural policy and funding issues.
