Government in the United States
There are three levels of government in the United States: federal, state and local.
Federal
Every citizen is represented in the federal government by two United States Senators and one Representative. Senators are elected by state for staggered six-year terms and are the same for every resident of that state. Representatives are elected for two-year terms by legislative districts and represent the residents of one district.
State
A governor and a bicameral legislative body similar to the United States Congress head the state governments. In Pennsylvania and Delaware, this body is divided into the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Local Counties in Pennsylvania are managed by a board of commissioners (Bucks, Chester, Montgomery) or council (Delaware, Philadelphia) of elected officials.
