New index tracks area cultural activities

(March 21, 2009) - A new measure of interest in cultural activities - dubbed the Cultural Engagement Index - has been developed to track, over time, involvement in regional cultural activities. According to officials at the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, which released the results of the first index survey yesterday, the data will eventually provide a portrait of cultural trends. "This index, for the first time, looks at the whole spectrum of cultural engagement, and the relationship between people's personal practices and their attendance at traditional concerts, museums and other attractions," said Peggy Amsterdam, alliance president.
