Phila. arts groups say popularity still high

(May 11, 2009) - Most cultural organizations report that ticket sales are holding steady or growing at the same
time government and corporate support is declining significantly in the recession, according
to a new survey by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.

Peggy Amsterdam, alliance president, noted that for most cultural groups, admission fees
covered less than half of production costs. The survey shows, she said, that "cultural
organizations are walking a tightrope between increasing interest and decreasing resources."
