Public Citizens for Children and Youth
The Picasso Project was created by Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) in 2002 to increase arts education opportunities for students in the School District of Philadelphia and improve the capacity of schools to provide arts education experiences. Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded yearly to Philadelphia Public Schools for projects that enhance and enrich the integration of the arts into the curriculum and classroom, often in partnership between school teachers, artists from the community and local arts organizations. At the same time, the Picasso Project engages in advocacy towards long-term changes in access to and funding for arts learning in Philadelphia schools.
PCCY's most recent report, Listen To My Story...Let Me Hear Yours, spotlights the Philadelphia School District's use of the arts to recognize and value differences in culture.
