The Urban Institute operates a number of programs related to the study and analysis of nonprofit organizations, including their Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy and Arts & Culture research. http://www.urban.org/communities/arts.cfm

Established in 1968 by a blue-ribbon panel set up by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the Urban Institute originally focused on problems facing urban areas. This nonprofit think-tank continues to work in this area and on other topics, such as research and analysis of policies and programs of the Federal Government. Recent arts publications from the Urban Institute include Cultural Vitality in Communities: Interpretation and Indicators by Maria Rosario Jackson, Florence Kabwasa-Green, and Joaquin Herranz.
