Background:
The Borough of Lansdowne is 1.2 square miles in size and was incorporated in 1893. Lansdowne has a rich industrial and commercial history with a long standing rail connection to Philadelphia and the suburbs beyond. In the early twentieth century residential development throughout the borough grew rapidly and many of the elegant homes from this era remain. Lansdowne, like many of Philadelphia’s inner ring suburbs, is challenged by changing demographics and lack of a strong economic base. Lansdowne is located approximately five miles from Philadelphia.
