Final Alert! Call Your Legislators NOW Urging Them to #SaveTheArts

Today is the deadline for Congress to pass a Continuing Resolution allowing the government to continue spending money, including federal arts funding. The Administration has called on Congress to strip $30 million in funding to the NEA and the NEH in the FY17 Continuing Resolution.

Because the White House has called for cuts in federal arts funding now and for total elimination of the NEA and NEH next year, any reduction is a risk. Preventing any FY17 cuts now is the best way to ensure that funding continues in FY18.

Call your legislators in D.C. TODAY before the midnight deadline urging them to pass FY17 spending bills that maintain level federal funding for the arts in this year’s budget.  Read our guide to calling your representatives and when you’re ready to call, look up your representatives here.

You can use this script:

Hello! Thank you for taking my call. I'm a constituent from [CITY/TOWN] and I am calling to express my support for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I understand Congress is considering eliminating the NEA and NEH, IMLS and privatizing our public broadcasting as well as cutting funding for the NEA and NEH by $30 million for fiscal year 2017.

Do you know what [elected official]’s position is on this proposal?

Thank you. As a constituent, I hope that the [congressman/senator] will reject all attempts to terminate or reduce the size and scope of the NEA, NEH, IMLS and to privatize public broadcasting. These institutions create jobs, educate children, support arts learning at any age, and promote access to the arts in every community across America. Thank you again for your time.

Thank you for all your help to #SaveTheArts this week! If you haven’t already, you can email your legislators using this form and find our guide to using social media to contact them here. We need your support today as the midnight deadline approaches!
