"Philadelphia: The Great Experiment" Documentary to Air Commercial Free on 6 ABC

On Tuesday, April 26th at 7:30 PM, the pilot episode of Philadelphia: The Great Experiment, a new documentary film, will be broadcast on 6abc/WPVI-TV. The film is multi-format historical television documentary that explores four centuries of city history and how Philadelphia became the most compelling stage of the unfurling and testing of American ideals.

The pilot episode will be hosted by 6abc Action News anchorman, Jim Gardner and will be broadcast without commercial interruption.  It tells the story of post-Civil War Philadelphia and will cover President Lincoln’s funeral cortege through Philadelphia streets; the expansion of the horse-drawn street cars that stimulated the development of new neighborhoods; the battle over access to those street cars which was one of the nation’s earliest civil rights struggles; the fight over site selection for a new City Hall; the racial conflicts between newly arriving immigrants and African Americans along South Street; the emergence of a new and powerful political party in the city—the Republican Party; the early days of the nation’s first retail store created by John Wanamaker; and the internationally acclaimed Centennial Exposition of 1876.
