2011 Election Resources

Tuesday, May 17 is Election Day in Pennsylvania with contested party primaries taking place throughout the region. Statewide, voters will be nominating candidates for Superior, Commonwealth and Common pleas court.

In Philadelphia, Mayor Nutter faces a primary challenge from Milton Street, the brother of former mayor John Street, and Paul Davies of the Philadelphia Inquirer’s editorial board has called this year’s City Council races a “once-in-a-generation opportunity for voters to reshape the city’s 17-member governing body.”

There are also important party primaries for County Commissioner in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery County, and voters in Delaware County will be going to the polls to nominate their party candidates for County Council. In all four counties voters will be choosing candidates for local school boards and judicial seats.

Vote on Tuesday, May 17th. But, before you do, check out the following resources to learn more about the candidates and this year’s hot issues.

  • Committee of Seventy is a nonpartisan election watchdog group and they have full coverage of this year’s battle for City Council and information on all of Philadelphia County’s elections and candidates.
  • Philly.com has a useful voter guide with candidate bios and candidate questionnaires.

  • Smart Voter, a project of the League of Women Voters, has a list of statewide, county and municipal candidates up for election.
  • Delaware County Election Bureau has voter resources and a down-loadable pdf of all the candidates on the ballot.
