Update: Pennsylvania State Budget and the Arts

As the budget proposal moves through the General Assembly, we look forward to studying the implications of this temporary funding stream and working with the members of the PA Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus to ensure arts grants funding at $9.59 million for FY 2017-18.

Earlier this week, Governor Tom Wolf delivered his budget proposal for FY 2017-18 to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. His plan for level funding ($9.59 million) of Grants to the Arts moves support for arts grants out of the General Fund and, over the next three years, into a special fund financed by the sale of bonds.

We applaud the Governor for this creative approach to funding the arts but have some concerns about the long term viability of this program.  As the budget proposal moves through the General Assembly, we look forward to studying the implications of this temporary funding stream and working with the members of the PA Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus to ensure arts grants funding at $9.59 million for FY 2017-18.

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance will be in communication with you as more information becomes available. Please mark your calendars: Citizens for the Arts in PA's Arts Advocacy Day is April 25 at the State Capitol. We need your participation now more than ever. Please check their website at www.citizensfortheartsinpa.org for more information about this event, and contact us with questions at groundswell@philaculture.org.
