Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Shining the Spotlight on Arts & Culture at the DNC

The Cultural Alliance is partnering with the local Host Committee for this summer's Democratic National Convention to highlight Philadelphia's amazing cultural assets. Here's how cultural organizations can take part. Stipends will be available to participating groups.

With the national and international spotlight on Philadelphia this July, when we host the Democratic National Convention, there's no better time to shine the spotlight on Philadelphia's rich and diverse cultural sector. The Cultural Alliance is helping the PHL DNC Local Host Committee to enliven the Avenue of the Arts with arts and culture during the convention (July 25-28).

The Mural Arts Program will be creating a unique public art project on the Broad Street median, and Fleisher Art Memorial will be running a children's art contest. In addition, a series of pop-up performances or creative activities will take place on Broad Street between Cherry Street to the north and Fitzwater Street to the south. The pop-up events will take place between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., when delegates are free.

We are gathering information from cultural organizations and community-based groups that are interested in providing a performance or creative activity at the pop-ups. It could involve professional or student artists, hands-on/educational activities, traveling exhibits or demonstrations, etc.

If you would like to suggest a performance or activity, complete this form. Someone from the Cultural Alliance or the local host committee will reach out to you in the next few weeks to follow up. If you have any questions, please contact Cultural Alliance Vice President of External Relations, Michael Norris at michaeln@philaculture.org.
