Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Interns! Get Your Interns!

The Cultural Alliance is providing our members with two opportunities to host paid interns this summer. Both are great ways to introduce arts and culture careers to young people at a formative time in their professional development and to provide valuable staff capacity to cultural organizations.

First, we are excited to offer the Bloomberg Arts Internship Program for the second summer. This program will partner with WorkReady Philadelphia to provide 50 rising seniors from Philadelphia high schools with six-week paid internships at cultural organizations this July and August. In addition to their worksite experience, interns also take field trips to visit other cultural institutions and take part in a wide range of professional development and skill-building exercises.

We are hosting an information session on Monday, April 25, from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the College of Physicians for organizations interested in participating in the Bloomberg Arts Internship program. To attend the information session, click here. We will need approximately 35-40 cultural organizations to host one or two interns this summer, and all types of cultural organizations are eligible to participate.

To sign up to host a Bloomberg high school intern or get more information on this opportunity, please contact Community Engagement Manager Rashanda Freeman at rashandaf@philaculture.org or 215-399-3511.

Second, we are partnering with Studio in a School in New York City to help it expand its college-level ARTS Intern program to Philadelphia this summer. Created by Agnes Gund, president emeritus of the Museum of Modern Art, chair of MoMA PS1 and founder of Studio in a School, this program provides paid summer internships at museums to rising junior and senior college students from diverse backgrounds and in need of financial aid. Studio in a School provides the funds to pay the interns' salaries for the summer, while the museums provide stimulating and challenging positions for the interns.

Studio in a School is looking to expand the program to 7-10 Philadelphia museums this summer. We are hosting an information session for this program on Monday, April 18, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the National Museum of American Jewish History. To register for the information session, click here.

For more information on this intern opportunity for college students, please contact Tom Cahill at Studio in a School at tcahill@studioinaschool.org or 212-765-5900, ext. 10.

Both internship opportunities also provide small stipends to the participating cultural worksites to help to compensate them for their time and investment in the programs.
