Volunteer with Philly GiveCamp over MLK Weekend!

Over Martin Luther King weekend, Philly GiveCamp will hold its 6th annual hackathon at Microsoft in Malvern. Philly GiveCamp holds an annual weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom solutions for nonprofit organizations. These projects may range from mobile apps and websites to custom software and hardware.

According to its organizers, Philly GiveCamp has grown a lot since it was founded in 2010. The first event was held with just a few web developers and a couple of nonprofits, while last year’s event hosted last year’s event hosted 101 volunteers who provided over $155,000 worth of services to 29 nonprofits. In addition, the Philly GiveCamp team also held a smaller event over the summer called HackBack, as part of National Day of Civic Hacking. The event offered past participants of Philly GiveCamp events the opportunity to come back for a website tune-up.

For January’s event, Philly GiveCamp is looking for both technical and non-technical volunteers to help build websites and WordPress sites for nonprofits during the weekend of January 15-17, 2016.

Non-technical volunteers are needed to help with a lot of aspects of the event, as well as asked to volunteer alongside the Philly GiveCamp developers.

“We always need volunteers who can help us manage the event, including check-in, organizing meals, helping answer questions and simply guiding volunteers around the facility,” says Philly GiveCamp’s chairman Will Heineman. “Additionally our non-technical volunteers can help teams develop content for their websites by writing, researching and photographing. These are aspects which are often overlooked but make a huge difference to the nonprofits. A website full of good content is much more appealing than an amazing site without any!”
