Breaking News: Philadelphia Cultural Fund Budget Maintained!

In March we told you that the Philadelphia Cultural Fund was once again in jeopardy of having its funding cut by 40% for FY2016. After months of advocacy, we are happy to announce that the Cultural Fund will be maintained at $3.14 million for FY2016!

In the past 3 months, GroundSwell advocates sent hundreds of emails to their Councilmembers, participated in our #SavePHLArts social media campaign, and came to City Hall on Philadelphia Arts Advocacy Day and for our public testimony. Council heard from YOU about the significant impact that Cultural Fund grantees are having in our neighborhoods, and that if we want to continue to reap the benefits of this work, we must fund them. As a result of your advocacy, the majority of Philadelphia's City Councilmembers signed their names to a letter to the Mayor requesting that the Cultural Fund be maintained!

For the second year in a row we had a big advocacy win, from restoring the Cultural Fund last year to maintaining it at that level this year. This is why we created GroundSwell, to bring people together and join a movement to show the impact that arts & culture, parks & recreation, libraries, and other quality of life organizations have on our region. If you want to help maintain this momentum, then we ask you to consider a donation of any amount to support GroundSwell’s work in our community. Donate now!

We also hope you will join us on Thursday, July 30th at The Oval to celebrate this big win and share a beer with your fellow advocates! More details to come over the next couple of weeks!
