Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas Inc. was founded in 1991 by a coalition of Latin American folklore dancers and musicians to represent and support all artists with Latin American backgrounds working and creating in Philadelphia. Over the years, the organization has evolved into an official non-profit organization, with the goal not only of supporting artists, but also showcasing and educating about Latin American culture in Philadelphia. Their mission is to support and increase public awareness of the richness, beauty and diversity of Latin American cultures and their roots through the performing and visual arts, and inspire communities to explore their diverse cultures and backgrounds as a means to seeking common ground.

Raíces has been a Cultural Alliance member since 2003. "Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas Inc. treasures the support the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance has given us over the years, especially in aiding us to promote the beauty of Latin American art and culture with a larger audience," says Erika Guadalupe Núñez, Program and Marketing Manager. "Our events, cultural showcases, language and dance classes, along with our current plans for a mural highlighting the diversity of South Kensington, are about giving voice to those that are not often heard and about challenging stereotypes. Our work here at Raíces is driven by our desire to encourage others to explore diverse cultures and the Cultural Alliance's belief of supporting this cultural sector demonstrates how together we are working towards making Philadelphia a great place for everyone."
