A Phabulous Night for Music

Philadelphia-area kids are set to perform at the Phillies game on Friday, May 30th, and the young musicians are sure to hit it out of the park.

Be a Phanatic About Reading Night – an evening centering on the importance of reading, literacy, and music – will include performances by approximately 200 Musicopia students. Musicopia is a nonprofit that offers music education to Delaware Valley youngsters who do not have adequate access to the magic of music.

With the Musicopia Drum Line providing accompaniment, Dr. Tanner G. Duckrey and General George Meade School Choirs will belt out “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the field prior to the game. The Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School’s Hostos Marching Lions will take the stage at the Terrace Break from 5:45 to 6:15, while the Musicopia String Orchestra Quartet will shine outside the Hall of Fame Club from 6:00 to 6:30. HOME, the Andrew Jackson School’s rock band, will rock out at the left field gate from 5:45 to 6:40, and the Visitation B.V.M. School’s choir will entertain inside the first base gate from 6:00 to 6:40.

Meanwhile, the Fender Airstream will allow ballgame goers to play guitars, snap selfies with a Phillie Phanatic cutout, and donate instruments to Musicopia’s Gift of Music program. Tickets are still available, and Musicopia plans to live-stream the event for those who cannot make the game.

Root, root, root for the home team, and root, root, root for the budding musicians when Musicopia showcases its students at Be a Phanatic About Reading Night.
