Project Stream Grant Recipients Honored at Feb. 15 Award Ceremony

On Tuesday, February 15, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and PECO honored forty nonprofit arts groups, and distributed more than $95,000 in Project Stream grants at an award ceremony held at PECO Energy Hall.

Featured speakers at the event included Jeff Gordon, PECO's manager of Corporate Relations, and Cultural Alliance President Tom Kaiden, who emphasized the profound impacts that the winning projects have on the communities that they serve, saying that grant recipients are "the research and development department of the cultural sector in the region." Program manager, April Williamson also spoke, mapping out the advocacy challenges facing the sector in Harrisburg and Washington, DC.

This year’s honorees included the Kennett Area Senior Center’s Living History Storytelling Project, a theater program that helps seniors reclaim their memories while strengthening their mental and physical abilities; the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County’s series of hands-on instrumental master classes for students in grades 3-12; Art for Justice’s Road Map for Life Workshop, an arts program that provides life skills training for twelve high risk youth; and the innovative Liveconnections.org music education program for children and special needs populations that takes place at WXPN’s World Cafe Live.

The Project Stream program provides seed money grants of up to $3000 to arts organizations offering innovative, community based arts projects, and are made possible through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts’ Partners in the Arts program, with additional support provided by PECO. This year, 80 groups applied for the program, and the average Project Stream award was $2,383.
