Program Intern- Summer Music Camp

What We Do

Play On Philly provides under-served children in Philadelphia a transformative music education experience that develops and inspires the behaviors and personal skills needed for a successful life.

During the school year, we work with our students five afternoons a week in group lessons and large ensembles. During the months of June, July and August, Play On Philly opens its programming to students across the city of Philadelphia for a full-day of music-making fun. Students take a deeper dive into their music-making through choir, theory and chamber music classes.

Play On Philly Summer Internships

At POP, a summer internship means jumping into the deep end and challenging a system that says ‘only certain students deserve high-level music experiences.’ From day one, interns are given responsibilities as teaching artists and arts administrators-in-training. Interns are responsible for day-to-day administrative tasks which keep our 6-week summer program running on schedule. During class time, interns are paired with experienced teaching artists so that they may observe, assist and gain invaluable classroom experience.

As best as possible, programs are tailored to the interests of the intern and the needs of Play On Philly. While interns spend the majority of their summer at program, they will have the opportunity to meet and learn from members of the POP administrative staff, participate in dialogue around POP’s values of equity and inclusion and hone their workplace skills.
