Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Meet an Alliancer: Amy Blumberg

Ever wondered what it's like to work at the Cultural Alliance? We'll introduce you to members of our staff! This month the spotlight is on Amy Blumberg, our Bloomberg Arts Internship Manager!

Job Title: Internship Manager for the Bloomberg Arts Internship

Job Responsibilities: I manage the process of recruiting and selecting this summer's intern cohort, contribute to curriculum planning for our professional development programming, and will be on the ground facilitating the day-to-day of the internship once we get going in June. I'm very much looking forward to delivering workshops and supporting the students' growth throughout the summer.

Degrees/certificates: I earned my BA from Barnard College with a major in Africana Studies and a minor in Dance. In December 2018 I earned my MFA in Theater Directing from Temple University.

Past experience working in arts and culture: After college, I was a freelance modern dancer in New York City for 6 years. While pursuing dance, I also directed and choreographed the middle and high school shows for a charter school network in Harlem. I have been lucky to spend the last three years training as a theater director in the graduate program at Temple. And I have taught dance and choreography to middle school, high school, and college students.

Favorite thing about working at the Cultural Alliance (so far): I love getting to meet amazing high school students from across Philadelphia. These students are driven, inspired, and immensely creative. I am already learning so much from them, and the internship hasn't even started!

Favorite cultural institutions/attractions/events: I love both FringeArts and the Wilma. So much of the work that I see at those venues challenges me, shakes me up, surprises me...and that's what I'm searching for in live performance. I have also loved going to BalletX performances. Their programming is excellent, not to mention their stunning dancers.

A fun fact about yourself: Last summer, I went on a road trip with one of my best friends from L.A. to Philly. We took 13 days to make our way across a big southern route. It was a joyous and life-changing experience. And I learned that Louisville, KY is a super cool place.
