Bloomberg Arts Internship Mentor

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance seeks three college students with an interest in the arts and education for a paid summer position mentoring students in the Bloomberg Arts Internship. This is an excellent opportunity for students who would like to gain experience combining the arts, education, and arts administration. In this program, mentors will provide guidance and oversight to high school students who will be interning at cultural organizations around the city and engaging in intensive pre-college professional development. The ideal candidate for this program is creative, flexible, comfortable speaking in front of groups, and has experience creating and facilitating arts-related programs for teens. Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with interns regarding work assignments, schedules, and responsibilities.
  • Serve as liaison between interns and Bloomberg Arts Internship staff.
  • Conduct bi-weekly internship worksite visits to document the intern experience.
  • Take intern attendance at cultural site visits and professional development.
  • Assist with facilitation of intern orientation, arts and cultural site visits, and professional development training workshops.
  • Guide intern use of multi-media projects, blogs and social media as needed.
  • Contribute to end-of-program report.

Mentors will work approximately 20-24 hours a week between June 24, 2019 and August 16, 2019.

Mandatory attendance:  There will be no exceptions for commitments that conflict with following program dates:

  • Mentor Training:  TBA (Possible dates Wednesday, June 19th or Thursday, June 20th)
  • Intern Orientation Week: Monday, June 24th through Thursday, June 27th (8:00am to 5:00pm each day)
  • Weekly arts and cultural site visits and professional development workshops: Thursdays and Fridays, July 11th through August 16th (8:00am to 5:00pm)
  • At least 2 intern worksite visits each week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from July 8th through August 14th (flexible hours)
  • Final Presentations - preparation and presentation days: Thursday, August 15, 2019 and Friday, August 16, 2019 (8:00am to 5:00pm)

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in the arts, experience facilitating teen-based programs in a fun and engaging manner, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Please indicate any design, photography, or film experience that you have.

Program Eligibility:
Applicants must be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors who will be enrolled in college full time during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Criminal and child abuse clearances required prior to start of program.  Forms and necessary instructions on obtaining these will be provided.

Payment
This is a part-time, seasonal contract position beginning in mid-June and concluding in mid-August. Mentors received a fee of $2640, paid in three installments over the duration of the program.
