Museum Educator

Title:   Museum Educator

Hours:  part-time; scheduled as needed, up to 30 hours per week.

Compensation:  $12/hr

Description:       The Lead Museum Educator will play a vital role in coordinating and facilitating engaging, educational programming, historic ships tours, Scout programming, and assists with other various education and public programming needs. They are scheduled at will and as needed to accommodate programming needs in the museum and occasionally off-site. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with a positive attitude that can work independently and adapt to changes quickly.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or college coursework in the education or museum field with demonstrated experience teaching young children.
  • Experience or interest in teaching environmental science and history.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other educators and Seaport Museum staff.
  • Upon hiring, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance and State Criminal Record Check are required.
  • Flexibility, ability and desire to learn, and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and overnights.

Duties:

  • Lead educational programs and tours on all subjects for K-12 field trip groups and occasionally adult groups.
  • Create, evaluate, and/or refine various educational programs and lessons.
  • Provide support during Seaport Slumbers by providing programming to attendees.
  • Provide off-site programming at fairs, festivals, outreach programs, and conferences.
  • Assist Education, Curatorial, Workshop on the Water, and Dock departments with programming content for Camps and other programs as needed.
  • Gather, maintain, and monitor inventory of supplies needed for programming regularly.
  • Maintain calm, positive, and organized atmosphere using classroom management skills.
  • Assist with weekend and evening public programming events, as needed.
  • Assist with training staff and docents, as needed.
  • Serve as gallery interpreter as needed.
