Assistant Model Trains Specialist

 

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with the assembly/disassembly and oversight of the annual model train display
  • Assists with the maintenance of the Museum’s model train collection and objects associated with its display, including maintenance and repair
  • Works with the Senior Model Railroad Specialist to create an inventory (with photographic documentation) of the model train collection and objects associated with its display
  • Provides information on the model train collection to the public when needed while the display is on view
  • Assists with operating the annual model train display for special events during the holiday season

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience and knowledge of model trains, their installation and operation
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Carpentry and soldering skills
  • Reliable transportation to and from the workplace
  • Embodies customer service best practices
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

The Assistant Model Railroad Specialist assists both the Senior Model Railroad Specialist and the Model Railroad Specialist with the assembly/disassembly of the display. They will also assist with the operation of the Museum’s annual model train display and if applicable, any ancillary exhibition(s). This part-time position will also assist with the train inventory project.
