Guitar Instructor and Digital Music Instructor

Schedule: Wednesday 1:45 - 4:15pm, Thursday 2:45pm - 6:30pm, plus one additional paid administrative hour

Starting Wage: $24/hour W2 with Paid Time Off

Job Summary: The guitar and digital music instructor will teach small group lessons to our MobileMusic and MusiCore students. Students will be at beginner and intermediate levels. Guitar students will learn to read music, major and minor scales, and prepare for group performances, and digital music music will learn basic recording through Garageband on iPads and MacBooks. The instructor will be a motivation to students not just musically but in life.

Essential Job Functions:

Ensure the use of positive behavior guidance, equity, and inclusion

Ensure all students, volunteers, and guests are adhering to the Rules of Rock and Rock to the Future’s philosophies

Prepare weekly lesson plans in advance for Site Director review ensuring different learning styles are accommodated (for example, written materials must be given to guitar students, not just taught by ear or demonstration)

Arrive on time with lesson materials prepared and a positive attitude

Teach prepared lesson plan

Communicate with the Site Director as needed regarding student absences, successes, and concerns

Take attendance for all classes

Attend all student performances

Attend all staff trainings

Ensure a clean and organized lesson room

Education and Experience

2+ years experience with GROUP instrumental instruction

1+ years experience working in under resourced schools

Skills

Strong bass skills required: An audition will test major and minor scales, warm-ups, sight reading, and a selection from the applicant

Upbeat, creative personality

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Extremely organized and have excellent task management skills

Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, responsible, and exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model for children and staff members

Ability to lead, teach, and interact with students, staff, and volunteers

Full commitment to the mission/philosophy of Rock to the Future

Excitement and positive attitude toward working with Philadelphia children

Dedication to the pursuit of continuous learning (for self and students)

Preferred skills: Experience with trauma informed practices
