College Mentors for the Bloomberg Arts InternshipOVERVIEW: The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance seeks four college students with an interest in arts and education for a paid summer position mentoring students in the Bloomberg Arts Internship. The Bloomberg Arts Internship is a unique eight-week program that provides Philadelphia high school seniors with college readiness training, professional development, and cultural immersion. Every summer since 2015, the Cultural Alliance has placed creative students in meaningful internship positions at cultural institutions all across Philadelphia. Through their internships, students gain a deep insight into how a world-class city’s cultural sector functions, and its value to the community. For all of our interns, this summer will be unlike any other, having not stepped foot in a classroom since March due to social distancing measures. At this time, it’s impossible for us to know whether these guidelines will still be in place at the scheduled start of our program at the end of June, but it is our goal to provide a valuable and fulfilling experience to our cohort, whether in-person or virtually. For mentors, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience combining the arts, education, and arts administration. In this program, mentors will provide guidance and oversight to high school students who will be interning at cultural organizations around the city and engaging in intensive pre-college professional development. Moreover, mentors will provide a vital near-peer connection to higher education and early-career experience. The ideal candidate for this program is creative, flexible, comfortable speaking in front of groups, and has experience creating and facilitating arts-related programs for teens. Experience as a camp counselor, tutor, after school program facilitator, or coach would be beneficial. Job Responsibilities may include:
