Summer Camp Counselor

Penn Museum is currently seeking counselors for their Summer Camp program. Penn Museum Anthropology Camp is a ten-week day camp (June 21-August 27, 2021) for children ages 6 to 13. Each week will feature a different theme, such as “Navigating the Stars” and “Engineering Marvels of the Ancient World”.  

Safety is a top priority for Summer Camp counselors, campers, and Museum visitors. All counselors and campers will be required to wear face masks. Counselors will be required to participate in weekly COVID testing, which will be provided by the University of Pennsylvania.

Positions are seasonal. Counselors will report to the Summer Camp Director. Pay rate is $14/hour.
 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist small and large groups of campers in a variety of activities, including gallery tours, art-making projects, games, scavenger hunts, and performances
  • Foster a fun and positive learning environment by facilitating friendships and teamwork among campers while acting as a mentor
     

Position Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm and experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
  • Competence in teaching and administrative work
  • Patience, creativity, enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility a must
  • Completed college degree with background in education, anthropology, archaeology, history or art preferred, but not required
  • Completed clearances preferred: Child abuse history, PA criminal record, and FBI criminal history
  • Must be willing to closely follow CDC and Museum safety guidelines for masking, distancing, room capacities, and hand washing/cleaning.
  • Must be available to work June 14-Aug. 27, Monday–Friday, 35-40 hours per week
