Accounting Assistant

REPORTS TO:            Accounting Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Accounting Assistant is a professional experience that allows an individual to further develop accounting skills and become familiar with the inner workings of the not for profit sector. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for accurate and timely accounting for PHS cash receipts and accounts receivable processes. They will prepare journal entries and account reconciliations and assist in the annual audit process. The position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Record receipts from multiple sources and systems including lockbox, cash, and credit cards in an accurate and timely manner.

Prepare and make bank deposits for non-lockbox items.

Reconcile general ledger with reports from customer database (Raiser’s Edge).

Assist Accounting Manger in management and maintenance of point-of-sale system.

Manage invoicing and collection for PHS’s Grow Magazine advertising.

Scan and catalog incoming certificates of insurance from third parties.

Support year end annual audit process.

Work under supervision of CPA’s and other experienced accountants.

Perform clerical/administrative duties as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITY 

This position has no direct reports

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Associate degree, or 1-2 years accounting or bookkeeping experience.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of general ledger accounting systems; experience with MS Dynamics is a plus.

Must have the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multitask, work independently and collaborate with others.

Ability to handle confidential information on a regular basis.

Attention to detail.
