Seeking Summer Camp Lead Art Teachers

Do you want to influence children’s lives in positive, creative ways?  Portside Arts Center is seeking experienced visual art teachers to join our team this summer.  Portside is a 501c3 non-profit community art center located in the Fishtown / Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia.  Portside provides a creative and nurturing environment that empowers the artists of tomorrow and creates lifelong patrons of the arts. Through dynamic visual arts programming, we encourage students to be globally-minded citizens and fearless artists.

Portside is seeking art teachers to work with our summer camp students ranging in age from 4-12 years old.  Portside’s Summer Arts Camp introduces young minds to hands-on visual arts experiences keeping them growing and learning during their break from school. Our kids are fun, creative, thoughtful and excited to be at our center.  

We are seeking  art teachers  to work part-time between the dates of June 20th and August 19th, 2022. Hours vary between M-F 8:00am - 6:00 pm and schedules are to be determined. 

All applicants applying must have expereince working with elementary age children.

    •    have experience leading a classroom of 20 children

    •    experience creating visual arts curriculum

    •    build and maintain positive relationships with parents

Requirements:

    •    Must have K-12 Arts Certification or at least 2 years of teaching art in a classroom setting of 20 or more students.

    •    Must provide two recent references

    •    Must have or obtain a criminal background check and a child abuse clearance

 

Curriculum Information:

Teachers are responsible for creating their own visual art curriculum. Some projects must include the following:

    •    21st-century skills

    •    exploration

    •    processed based learning

    •    artist exemplar/art history

 

Teachers will be asked to create a curriculum that incorporates the theme of the week. We encourage teachers to show examples of artists work allowing students to develop an appreciation for artists, art history and other cultures. 

 

Camp Teacher Responsibilities:

    •    Leading children in 1 or 2  (45 minutes) art project each day

    •    Creating your own curriculum

    •    Providing parents with updates on their child’s progress through the Class Dojo App

    •    Walking the children to a local playground every day

    •    Setting up and cleaning up classroom

    •    Prep classroom for the following day

    •    Arriving on time and leaving on time

    •    Directing assistant teacher, interns, and jr. counselors.

    •    Providing feedback for assistant teachers

Pay: $18/hr
