COMMUNITY AND OUTREACH MANAGER, WARRIOR WRITERS

About Warrior Writers:

Warrior Writers is a community of military veterans, service members, artists, allies, and healers dedicated to creativity and wellness. We use writing, painting, photography, and a host of other mediums to reflect on our experiences and express them creatively. Warrior Writers is a national non-profit, based in Philadelphia, with participants and activities across the country. 

Position Description:

The Community and Outreach Manager is a new position within Warrior Writers specifically for a veteran who is passionate about the mission of Warrior Writers and connecting veterans with the services and programs we offer. This person will be the main point of contact for community members seeking involvement, resources, or information. They will also do active outreach in communities to educate about Warrior Writers. The person in this position will also be comfortable and able to talk to parties seeking interviews, panelists, or similar appearances. 

Warrior Writers is a collaborative community; this position works with and reports to the Director.

This position can be done mostly remotely, but must be willing to communicate with our community across the country in different time zones.

Duties Include:

Outreach

  • Be knowledgeable about Warrior Writers events and programming in order to easily talk with interested individuals, groups, and organizations about what we do, who we are, and what we believe in. 
  • Assist participants in registering or attending events, to a reasonable extent

Resource Management

  • Create and manage national and regional resource lists for veterans and family members. Resources can include but are not limited to mental health, wellness, community groups, arts organizations, food and shelter, veteran focused organizations, etc.

Other Duties Include:

  • Attend regular staff meetings and chapter leader check ins
  • Be trained to facilitate the “Working with Veterans 101” workshop and co-facilitate these workshops as scheduled
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment and management
  • Serve on panels or interviews 
  • Be trained in our conflict resolution practices, and be involved, if needed, in any organizational conflict resolution. 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of and experience in the veteran community 
  • Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence 
  • A strong passion for supporting the wellness of veterans, and for the role the arts play
  • Excellent “people skills;” enjoy talking to people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and making everyone feel appreciated and welcome
  • A collaborative approach
  • This is a great position for a veteran with a background in social work, organizing, community engagement, the arts, or wellness

Compensation:

This position is part time, 15 hours/week, $20/hour.
