Director of Marketing and Communications

Located in historic Old City Philadelphia, the National Liberty Museum (NLM) seeks a creative, energetic, and results-oriented Director of Marketing and Communications to lead all marketing communications activities for the institution. Reporting to the CEO, and overseeing a current staff of three, the Director serves as a key leadership team member. The ideal candidate will be strategic, analytical, and have the ability to excel under time constraints and in a variety of settings.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Hours:

Full-Time, 40 Hours a Week. Monday–Friday 

Occasional weekends and some evenings throughout the year.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director has primary responsibility for both the strategic direction and execution of quality, timely, and relevant marketing communications campaigns that raise awareness of and support for the mission of the NLM. The Director oversees all aspects of the marketing communications program: digital strategy including the website, email, and social media; writing, design, and production of print and online collateral; media relations; development and management of earned revenue opportunities; and cross-promotional partnerships with select media.

 

The Director coordinates his or her efforts with the rest of the Museum staff to ensure fully integrated communications; develops all messaging and oversees usage of the NLM brand; collaborates on all fundraising initiatives; promotes and markets all programs and fundraising initiatives; and supports the work of the Marketing Committee of the Board. As part of a small and team-oriented nonprofit, all staff are required to assist with organization-wide duties and at major events, so some weekend and evening work is required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Five to 10 years of experience in nonprofit marketing and communications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Proven track record of success in advertising, print and digital collateral, and media relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience managing a departmental budget
  • Experience using website content management systems like WordPress and email systems like Constant Contact
  • Knowledge of Altru or a similar CRM
  • Strong project management skills, knowledge of project management software a plus
  • Knowledge of graphic design programs like InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience overseeing the management of multiple active social media channels
  • Previous experience working successfully with outside vendors and partners
  • Experience working with the media, pitching stories, and serving as the organization’s spokesperson
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player who productively engages with others within and outside the NLM
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with tracking and analysis of marketing campaigns
