Assistant Teacher of After School Arts Program

Portside Arts Center seeks creative individuals to work with us this school year! As the assistant teacher you will work alongside one of our lead art teachers which will give you valuable classroom and teaching experience. Portside is looking for someone who has a strong work ethic, who has a love for teaching and who is confident in their abilities. 

 

Portside is a 501c3 non-profit community art center located in the Fishtown/Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia.  Portside provides a creative and nurturing environment that empowers the artists of tomorrow and creates lifelong patrons of the arts. Through dynamic visual arts programming, we encourage students to be globally-minded citizens and fearless artists.

 

Portside is seeking Teaching Assistants to work with our minnows classroom (grades Pre-K and Kindergarten), our Sharks classroom (grades 1 and 2), and our Pirates classroom (grades 3, 4 and 5). 

Portside’s After School Arts Program.

The Portside’s After School Arts Program introduces children to the fundamentals of arts education through a hands-on visual arts curriculum. The program incorporates components of socialization and homework assistance with a large dose of play. Our kids are fun, creative, thoughtful and excited to be at our center.  

 

We are seeking assistants to work part-time for the duration of the Philadelphia Public School's 2021-2022 academic year. Assistants should be available to work variable schedules Monday - Friday, between the hours of 2:30 and 6:00 PM. 

 

Responsibilities :

  • Assisting bus driver in picking up students from school
  • Assisting with lesson prep and clean up
  • Assisting children with their homework and art projects
  • Supervising children in a variety of settings
  • Assisting with end-of-day parent pickup
  • Helping ensure children are on-task and meeting behavioral expectations
  • Requirements:
  • Must have experience working with children or in a classroom environment
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Background in visual arts or education is a plus
  • Must have a strong desire to work with children
  • Must be a happy, organized and self motivated person
  • Must have or acquire a child abuse clearance & criminal background check
