Job Title: Children’s Studio Manager

Job-Type: Full-time, requires weekend days. Mondays and Tuesdays off.

Overview

Woodmere is dedicated to the art and artists of Philadelphia and presents programs and exhibitions that inspire creativity, learning, and self-expression through interactions with art.

The Museum is seeking a full-time Manager of the Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art & Education Children’s Studio to develop and implement a studio program for children grades Pre-K to 12. The ideal candidate will build community interest that fosters an atmosphere of artistic discovery, free expression, and creative collaboration for young artists. This position reports to the Curator of Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES include and are not limited to:

  • Develop curriculum design and lesson plans.
  • Guide all aspects of the studio’s operations to ensure programming
  • Recruit and oversee  part-time art educators.
  • Partner with museum staff to create a welcoming environment that supports children as they participate in programs and navigate the studio space.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Curator of School and Family Programs to generate art projects for school visits that are inspired by the work of artists on exhibit in the galleries.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Curator of Education in the scheduling of school visits, Drop-in Studio registrations, and children’s art classes.
  • Manage studio budget: oversee classroom supplies inventory, place orders, and process invoices.
  • Oversee care of the art studio space and prep for the next day’s programs -including cleaning and organizing daily.
  • Design and install the display of children’s artworks, updating regularly.
  • Gather and review feedback from visitors, including teachers, children, and families. Lead staff reflection sessions to evaluate program quality and implement improvements.
  • Partner with Curator of Education and the Marketing and Communications Department to promote programs.
  • Pitch in as necessary in partnership with members of the education staff on programming.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in art education with studio art experience.
  • Experience writing lesson plans, developing and delivering programs related to various themes and art.
  • Community-based artmaking and engagement experience.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Interest in developing nature-based art projects.
  • 2 to 3+ years of experience as a museum educator or art teacher for grades Pre-K to 12.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experiences with different art mediums.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to accessible learning for children of all abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
