Summary: Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is seeking an Education Coordinator for its Philadelphia school programs, online Arabic courses, and summer camp. 

Job Description 

The Education Coordinator is a part-time hourly position reporting to the Senior Manager of Programs and Community Engagement and the Executive Director. The position requires working collaboratively with Al-Bustan team members and overseeing teaching artists, interns, and volunteers. The Education Coordinator will work directly with Al-Bustan’s educational programs in schools and will work with Al-Bustan staff to organize and facilitate Al-Bustan’s annual summer camp. The Education Coordinator also supports Al-Bustan’s Arabic language specialist with our online Arabic language courses for children and adults. 

The Education Coordinator plays a vital role in connecting Al-Bustan’s school-aged educational programming with the nonprofit's overall goals, engaging families with Al-Bustan’s cultural arts programs. The Education Coordinator facilitates programming that highlights Arab culture through the arts, ensuring our school-aged programming aligns with our organizational mission and creates a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue.   

The ideal candidate will be highly organized and flexible, able to respond effectively to an often fast-paced environment with diverse audiences. 

The Education Coordinator position is based in person at our hub and on-site at our partner schools. The role requires regular travel between schools and programs in Philadelphia.  

All Al-Bustan employees, regardless of their position, contribute to Al-Bustan’s ongoing programs and events, which sometimes take place on evenings and weekends.  

This position involves regular physical activity in a classroom setting with children and includes lifting and transporting art supplies, drums, or other musical equipment, and class materials as needed. 

Essential Qualifications 

The Education Coordinator should have 2 years of administrative experience with K-12 children’s programming. This includes the following: 

  • Familiarity with K-12 essential public-school policies and procedures for in-school and after-school programs 
  • Obtaining state and federal-mandated clearances 
  • Liaising with school administrators, principals, and classroom teachers 
  • Overseeing a small team of teaching artists (preparation, curriculum support, and on-site program facilitation) 
  • Quarterly documentation and reporting to ensure our programming is aligned with our organizational mission and goals. 

The Education Coordinator should have hands-on experience in organizing or co-organizing a summer camp. This includes the following: 

  • Working collaboratively with Al-Bustan staff to plan a theme. 
  • Promoting summer camp to fill enrollment 
  • Ensuring the camp is compliant with mandatory clearances and training 
  • Processing registration and payments 
  • Creating a camp schedule 
  • On-site coordination with summer camp teachers, counselors, and campers. 

Preferred Experience 

  • Arabic speaker, intermediate to advanced 
  • Familiarity with Greater Philadelphia Arab communities and Arab culture 
  • Direct experience with the Philadelphia School District in and out-of-school programs 
  • Experience planning and delivering professional development and informational, creative education-focused workshops for academic and community-based audiences. 

 

Hourly 

$22 

Approximately 25 hours per week 

Paid monthly
