Position Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a strategic leader who shapes and advances Fleisher Art Memorial’s public presence, brand identity, and audience engagement initiatives. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a bold, integrated marketing and communications strategy that strengthens Fleisher’s reputation as a leader in community-based art education and ensures its programs are visible and accessible to the widest possible audiences.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director partners with colleagues across departments to ensure cohesive storytelling and strategic alignment. In close collaboration with Development, the Director creates communications strategies that support donor engagement, philanthropic campaigns, and brand-aligned fundraising initiatives. With Programming, the Director drives participation in Fleisher’s classes, tuition-free programs, workshops, exhibitions, and community-based offerings, ensuring that communications inspire curiosity, foster belonging, and deepen community relationships.

The Director supervises Fleisher’s Digital Marketing Coordinator and works closely with external vendors as needed, balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Duties include, but not limited to):

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year marketing and communications strategy that advances Fleisher’s mission, visibility, and diverse audience engagement.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director and leadership team, aligning marketing and communications strategies with organizational goals, brand identity, and DEAIB commitments.
  • Partner with the Development team to design donor engagement campaigns, support fundraising initiatives, and integrate storytelling into all philanthropic communications.
  • Collaborate with the Programming team to promote participation in classes, exhibitions, and community programs.
  • Engage board members in advancing Fleisher’s strategic vision in areas related to audience growth, fundraising, and brand awareness.

Marketing & Communications Strategy

  • Oversee all external communications and branding efforts, ensuring consistent tone, voice, and visual identity across platforms.
  • Lead digital strategy, including website management, email marketing, social media, and paid advertising.
  • Manage media relations and act as Fleisher’s spokesperson when the Executive Director is unavailable.
  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance and audience engagement metrics to inform strategy.
  • Creative Direction & Content Development
  • Oversee the development of high-quality, brand-aligned content, including print, digital collateral, video, photography, and storytelling.
  • Support exhibitions and programs with compelling visual and written narratives, graphics, signage, and interpretive materials.
  • Collaborate with program staff to create inclusive, inspiring content that reflects Fleisher’s diverse audiences and community voice.

Administration & Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide professional development opportunities for the Digital Marketing Coordinator, fostering creativity and accountability.
  • Manage departmental budget and vendor contracts, ensuring efficiency and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead internal communications to keep staff, faculty, and board informed and aligned with messaging.
  • Model collaborative, empathetic leadership and demonstrate emotionally intelligent decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, preferably in nonprofit arts, culture, or education.
  • Proven success in designing and executing integrated marketing strategies that support audience engagement and fundraising.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and message for diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in digital marketing platforms, including social media, Google Analytics, email campaigns, and paid advertising.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and comfort with basic visual design and multimedia tools.
  • Experience managing staff, budgets, and vendors in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong public speaking and media relations experience.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms, marketing databases, and project management tools.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with day-to-day execution.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging (DEAIB).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in bilingual or multicultural marketing environments.
  • Prior experience aligning marketing strategies with capital campaigns or donor engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with community-based organizations and grassroots outreach.
  • Experience with accessibility-focused design and communications.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is primarily performed in a hybrid setting, with both remote and on-site responsibilities.
  • Some evening and weekend hours required for events and urgent communications needs.
  • Work may include prolonged computer use, meetings, and occasional lifting or transporting of materials.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience
