Basic Function: Provides guided tours of Brandywine’s historic properties, as well as the N.C. Wyeth Mural Experience (Apotheosis of the Family), in partnership with the Wyeth Foundation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Guides visitors of all ages and abilities through Brandywine’s historic properties, located in Chadds Ford, PA and N.C. Wyeth’s Mural Experience at Point Lookout Farm, located in Wilmington, DE. Presents information in a way that is accurate, engaging, and appropriate for the audience’s age and interest level. Answers visitors’ questions in a professional manner.
  2.  Works one to two days per week, including some weekends, giving multiple tours per day.
  3.  Ensures the safety and satisfaction of all visitors.
  4.  Participates in ongoing training to stay current on historical research and interpretation methods.
  5.  Attends staff meetings as required, including sessions in March and December to begin and end the guiding season.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:                    

  1. Part-time, paid position, including weekend hours. The position normally runs seasonally from April through November. This year, tours of N.C. Wyeth’s Apotheosis of the Family will run through Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 for one season.
  2. Excellent public speaking skills and enthusiasm for tour topics. Ability to engage visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  3. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  4. Open and flexible to learning new tour material as new research and opportunities evolve.
  5. Ability to stand and walk for an hour at a time, to go up and down steps in historic structures, and to navigate sloped, uneven terrain. Adaptable to temperature changes and varying weather conditions: some parts of tours are outdoors and not all buildings are air-conditioned.
  6. Undergraduate degree with public speaking or teaching experience preferred. General knowledge of art history is helpful.
  7. Reliable transportation to and from the workplace and to and from other sites as necessary.
  8. Flexible availability; due to the schedule of programs and activities, the role includes weekend hours.
  9. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
