Retail Store Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train store employees to meet business and customer needs
  • Create weekly schedules and assign responsibilities to ensure full coverage
  • Conduct regular performance reviews (bi-yearly) and coach underperforming employees as needed
  • Provide continuous development opportunities through ongoing training and guidance
  • Foster a positive, professional, and customer-focused work environment

Customer & Vendor Relations

  • Maintain the store’s reputation by modeling excellent service in-person and over the phone
  • Support new and existing customer relationships through proactive communication
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and workshops as needed to expand vendor and professional networks
  • Inventory & Operations Management
  • Help manage and maintain accurate inventory levels for the retail store, online store, and school accounts
  • Assist with merchandising and maintaining compelling, visually appealing store displays
  • Lead and track in-store sales initiatives, aligning with goals set alongside the Buyer and Owner

Sales & Business Support

  • Utilize sales data to inform decision-making and operational improvements
  • Collaborate with leadership to set store performance goals and achieve revenue targets

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of retail management experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and team-motivation abilities
  • Effective under pressure with proven conflict resolution skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to review and interpret sales data for business decisions
  • Experience in procurement, logistics, and inventory management
  • Confident self-starter with strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Strong math skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
  • Ceramics knowledge or industry background is a plus
  • Physical & Availability Requirements
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of two consecutive hours and remain active throughout the shift
  • Must be able to lift 50 lb clay boxes daily and handle dry materials with proper precautions
  • May involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and reaching overhead
  • Enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, friendly, and energetic demeanor
  • Availability for varied scheduling: early mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events (e.g., Blowout Sales)

The Retail Store Manager oversees the daily operations of the store to ensure an exceptional customer experience, efficient workflows, and strong team performance. This role requires a highly motivated leader who can balance operational excellence with engaging customer service.
