Noteworthy Philadelphia is seeking an Audio Engineer (Vocal Production & Mixing)—an ideal role for an early-career audio engineer, producer, or technically skilled musician looking to gain hands-on experience in vocal production, collaborative audio workflows, and music-video-driven recording projects.

This position offers meaningful creative responsibility, mentorship, and portfolio-worthy experience while supporting a growing community-based vocal ensemble. The Audio Engineer plays a critical role in shaping the sound of Noteworthy Philadelphia’s recorded content, working closely with artistic and production leadership to bring vocal performances to life.

While this role is rooted in audio engineering, it is also highly collaborative and creative, sitting at the intersection of music direction, performance, and visual storytelling.

 

About the Role

The Audio Engineer (Vocal Production & Mixing) is responsible for editing, assembling, and polishing multitrack vocal recordings for Noteworthy Philadelphia’s music videos and recorded projects. You will work closely with the Executive Director, Music Program Associate(s), Videographer, and singers to ensure that audio quality supports both musical excellence and visual storytelling.

This role focuses on a cappella vocal production rather than commercial studio release work. Final audio deliverables are intended for music videos and digital content, not for streaming or label distribution, though the work should be clean, musical, and video-ready.

 

Responsibilities

  • Edit, align, and assemble individual vocal tracks based on provided arrangements and reference session files.
  • Clean and refine vocal recordings, including timing alignment, pitch consistency, fades, and correction of isolated errors.
  • Balance, mix, and master vocal tracks to support clarity, blend, and musical impact for video production.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Music Program Associate(s) to ensure audio supports artistic intent and performance style.
  • Review draft audio alongside video edits and incorporate feedback efficiently.
  • Coordinate audio timelines to align with filming schedules and post-production needs.
  • Maintain organized session files and provide both final audio exports and editable project files.
  • Support future recording projects as the group’s video and performance output expands.

 

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience editing and mixing vocal recordings.
  • Is comfortable working with multitrack vocal sessions and iterative feedback.
  • Wants to build a strong portfolio of finished audio projects.
  • Understands the nuances of vocal blend, balance, and performance-driven mixing.
  • Can work independently while collaborating closely with artistic leadership.
  • Is reliable, communicative, and able to meet agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Is excited to contribute their technical skills to a mission-driven arts nonprofit.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with choirs, vocal ensembles, or even a cappella groups.
  • Familiarity with vocal arranging and how arrangement choices affect mixing decisions.
  • Proficiency in Audacity, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or similar audio editing platforms.
  • Interest in music video production workflows and performance-based audio delivery.

As part of the executive board, the Audio Engineer (Vocal Production & Mixing) will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, contribute to high-level artistic and production decisions, and grow into a director-level or lead production role over time as a key creative partner within Noteworthy Philadelphia’s production ecosystem.

We are a young adult performing arts group that values creativity, leadership development, and collaboration. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience in artistic and technical leadership while working alongside experienced professionals in performance, music direction, and creative production.

 

Additional Details

  • Volunteer Position: This is an unpaid role, but you will hold meaningful creative responsibility within the organization.
  • Project-Based Engagement: Work is scheduled around recording and video production cycles rather than weekly rehearsals.
  • Flexible Workflow: Time zone flexibility is available; clear communication and responsiveness are expected.

Optional Group Involvement: Audio Engineers who are also singers and based in the local Greater Philadelphia area are encouraged to audition and engage as performing members of the ensemble. While not required, deeper artistic involvement is welcomed for those interested in contributing both technically and musically

 

Trial Period

An initial project-based trial period will allow both parties to confirm fit, workflow, and expectations before establishing an ongoing collaboration.

Noteworthy Philadelphia is a community-based music enrichment nonprofit dedicated to using music to brighten lives, foster connections, and build community. Our members are talented vocalists in their 20s and 30s, creating polished, engaging performances and music videos that blend strong musicianship with intentional storytelling.

You’ll work closely with the executive team to support recorded performances and music videos, transforming multitrack vocal recordings into polished, video-ready audio. This is a volunteer position with the opportunity to grow into a leadership role over time. Singers based in the Greater Philadelphia area are encouraged to audition and join the group as performing members, though neither ensemble membership nor local residence are required for this role.
