Project Stream


Congratulations to the 2016 Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Stream Grant awardees!  In 2016, 84 projects from the Philadelphia region were funded with almost $95,000 in grants through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' (PCA) Partners in the Arts program. An additional $15,000 in funding was generously provided by PECO. The average award was $1,306.

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is the regional partner administering the PPA Project Stream in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties with grants of up to $2,500 to eligible organizations and individuals.

2016-2017 Project Stream Grantees


Bucks County

Acting Naturally - $1,360.00            
Elf the Musical is a holiday production of Acting Naturally, a nonprofit organization committed to providing outstanding community entertainment. Acting Naturally has a Repertory Company performing plays and musicals throughout the year. In addition, Acting Naturally offers year round Workshops for children and adult beginners through advanced along with seven week long Summer Camps.
Artists in Residence - $969.00               
Artists in Residence makes artist residencies in Bucks County schools possible. During the 2016 - 2017 school year, Musician Dave Fry and Artist April Zay will be artists in residence at Sndyer-Girotti Elementary School in Bucks County.
Music on Main - $1,767.00           
Music on Main will provide 19 free public music performances in Yardley Borough over 12 months in 2016 and 2017.
Cantus Novus - $1,711.00           
Cantus Novus is an auditioned 40-voice community chamber choir. The Cantus Novus 2016-2017 series will consist of 3 performances each of a December holiday concert program and a spring concert program.
Concordia Chamber Players - $1,674.00           
Concordia Chamber Players is committed to bringing high quality performances of masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire spanning all centuries, performed by renowned guest artists to Bucks county. This grant supports their 2016 season.
Stone Mason Projects - $1,545.00           
Stone Mason Projects is a music production company that specializes in creating new music for voice. Project Stream will fund a summer music festival, New Hope Soun(e)scape, that will bring some of New York and Philadelphia's vocalists to New Hope, PA.
Cassandra Stancil Gunkel - $1,592.00           
Cassandra Stancil Gunkel will lead The Fine Art of Aging Creatively classes that utilizes printmaking and fiber arts to engage individuals ages 60 and over in creative expression and self-discovery.
Tim Farrell - $1,564.00           
The Stretched Strings Concert and Workshop Series is a performance and educations program dedicated to presenting a broad spectrum of music that expresses the pure beauty of stringed instruments with an emphasis on the guitar. Guest artists this year will include Trevor Gordon Hall and StringSongs.
La Fiocco - $945.00               
La Fiocco, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to performing music of the Baroque and early Classical eras on period instruments, will host a public concert and educational event in Bucks county entitled Phantasticus! Virtuoso Music of the Seventeenth Century.
Palisades Community Chorus - $1,286.00           
The Palisades Community Chorus will be performing selections from Mozart, Bach, and Avro Part as part of their 25th Anniversary Winter Concert.
Southampton Community Band - $1,434.00           
The Southampton Community Band is a Bucks county band made up of volunteer musicians. The band seeks support through Project Stream to purchase new pieces and perform more advanced pieces.
St. Philips Episcopal Church - $1,619.00           
St. Philips Episcopal Church will present the Bucks county community with two days of workshops, concerts, and outreach with the folk/world music duo Simple gifts.
Yardley Friends Meeting - $1,656.00           
Yardley Friends Meeting will present Bucks county students, seniors, and general public with two days of programming with the folk/world music duo Simple Gifts.

Chester County

Art Ability - $2,024.00           
Art Ability is a year-round program which serves as a showcase for - and celebration of - artists with disabilities. Its largest component is an international, twelve-week exhibition & sale of art.
Ballet 180 - $1,371.00           
As a professional contemporary ballet company, Ballet 180 seeks to facilitate a 180-degree transformation in the lives of their dancers and the community by creating a positive platform for high quality artistry and service to society. This mission is fulfilled through Ballet 180, a contemporary ballet company and Move 360 community outreach initiatives.
Borough of Malvern - $1,819.00            
The Borough of Malvern will present the Chester County community with 2 days of educational workshops and concerts with the folk music duo Simple Gifts.
Chester County Pops Orchestra - $1,856.00           
The Chester County Pops Orchestra is a 65-member orchestra centered in Chester county. They will perform Perform with the Pops in collaboration with multiple elementary schools in December 2016.
Chester County Youth Wind Ensemble - $1,595.00           
The Chester County Youth Wind Ensemble is an ensemble open to woodwind, brass, and percussion players in 6th-8th grades who reside in or near Chester County.
Coatesville Area Senior Center Art Classes - $1,278.00        
Artist Marcia Gentry will partner with the Coatesville Area Senior Center and will teach fine arts classes to seniors. Students in the classes will participate in the Chester County Senior Center Collaborative Art Show held at the Chester Government Services Building.
Nottingham Elementary School - $1,856.00           
Nottingham Elementary School presents an annual Fine Arts Night to showcase professional, amateur, and student artwork. Project Stream funding supports this event and its featured performance by folk/world music duo Simple Gifts.
Oxford Area Senior Center - $1,203.00           
Since 2001, the Oxford Area Senior Center has offered professionally-taught painting classes to area senior citizens. The class is held once a week for 50 weeks of the year and provides a unique community class for the Senior Center.
Phoenixville Senior Center - $1,502.00          
This years grant cycle award supports the Phoenixville Area Senior Center's fine arts classes with Martin Pieczonka, who works individually with each student on different methods for sketching and drawing still lifes.
Rhona Candeloro - $1,259.00           
Rhona Candeloro will present a program based on the Creative Aging philosophy that links creative expression to healthy aging. She will lead seniors through a series of projects including painting mandalas and creating storytelling collages.
Transformation Yoga Project - $1,595.00           
With Project Stream funding, Transformation Yoga Project in Chester County, PA,  will produce a 10-minute documentary video about the beneficial impact of yoga and mindfulness for those who have experienced trauma.

Delaware County

Friends of Glen Providence Park Summer Concert Series - $1,963.00           
Friends of Glen Providence Park works to enhance the natural and historic resource of Delaware County's oldest park. Project Stream funding will support a series of concerts in the summer of 2017.
Marcus Hook Preservation Society - $1,628.00           
The Marcus Hook Pirate Festival brings 18th century music, crafts, and artistry to the Marcus Hook community in Delaware County.
Melmark - $2,278.00           
Melmark Players theater group is a group of adults in Melmark's Meadows program. The program provides theater experiences for adults with developmental disabilities, and Project Stream will support their 6 performances in 2016.
Olivia Sabee - $1,918.00           
3 Minutes Max is a dance performance that will be performed at Little Crum Creek in Swarthmore, PA.


Montgomery County

Art4ME@ Montco SAAC - $2,103.00           
Art4ME @ Montco SAAC is an arts program for seniors that has been adapted from an Alzheimer's Project of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. The project employs the arts as a vehicle for promoting creative expression and improving quality of life for seniors and caregivers.
David Antonio - $1,726.00           
David Antonio will provide therapeutic music, mainly classical guitar and North American style flute, for patients at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center as they receive chemotherapy.
Linnie Kerrigan-Greenberg & Virginia Conover: Mixed Media Collage/Bookmaking - $1,641.00           
Linnie Kerrigan-Greenberg and Virginia Conover are both artists who conduct collage workshops in senior center, public libraries, and community centers. Kerrgian-Greenberg and Conover seek Project Stream Funding to cover the cost of supplies for the workshops.
Maria Maneos: Brush with the Law - $2,678.00           
Brush With the Law is a prison art program that is conducted within the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in a semi-rural section of Eagleville, PA. The project uses visual art practices as a catalyst for positive transformation and self-expression for the inmates involved.
Philomusica of Delaware Valley - $2,203.00           
Philomusica of Delaware Valley is a volunteer, auditioned chorus of 65 men and women, ages 15 to 84, that presents four major concerts each year and is led by artistic director Gayle Wieand.
Pottstown Dance Theatre Reperatory Ensemble - $942.00               
With Project Stream funding, Pottstown Dance Theatre will bring the workshop Performing Arts on Wheels to the Brandywine Senior Suites residents in Montgomery County. The workshop will involve seniors in music, movement, therapeutic dance, and creative exploration.
The Open Link - $1,628.00           
The Center is a senior center in Montgomery County that offers educational classes to area seniors. Photographer Kristi Morris will teach a digital photography class in the fall of 2016.
Valley Choral Society - $2,103.00           
Valley Choral Society is a 70-member chorus celebrating its 32nd year. The Valley Choral Society conducts performances in Montgomery, Berks, and Bucks counties.
VoxAmaDeus - $2,328.00           
VoxAmaDeus is a classical music organization in its 30th year. Its mission is to bring life to the music of the Early Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods with special emphasis on music from old Europe and the British Isles.
White's Road Park Concert & Performing Arts Series - $2,403.00           
White's Road Park Concert and Performing Arts Series is an annual event in the Borough of Lansdale. The series consists of 19 free performances held at the natural amphitheater in White's Road Park.


Philadelphia County

Almanac Dance Circus Theatre - $897.00                          
The Almanac Dance Circus creates interdisciplinary works of art that tell stories through partner acrobatics, trapeze, break dancing, physical theatre, mime, and folk music that transcend traditional theatre boundaries. The ADC seeks Project Stream funding for Exile 2588, an ensemble dance circus theatre that will be performed as part of the 2016 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
APIARY Magazine - $1,067.00           
APIARY Magazine is a free biannual magazine publishing new writing by Philadelphia authors across the lines of race, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
Applied Mechanics - $999.00               
Feed is a performance by Applied Mechanics that is created around a menu: 3 performers serve a meal to the audience from 3 different time periods, offering dishes as stories in which distant cultures find common ground.
Arielle Pina: No Introduction - $941.00               
Arielle Pina seeks funding for No Introduction, a dance piece choreographed by Shari Williams and herself. The piece examines black female identity in relation to modern day beauty expectations.
ARTZ Philadelphia - $999.00               
ARTZ Philadelphia's mission is to provide opportunities for self-expression and for the rebuilding of self-esteem and dignity to people with memory loss and those who care for them. Project Stream funding will support ARTZ on the Road to bring professionally facilitated conversations about works of art into the lives of people with dementia.
Association for the Advancement and Integration of Design - $989.00               
For the 2016-2017 school year, the Association for the Advancement and Integration of Design will implement its program Artistry in three Philadelphia schools. The project will focus on the theme "SELF" and explore how students can impact their communities.
Automatic Arts - $812.00               
Automatic Arts requests support for its Nice and Fresh Performance Series. The Nice and Fresh Performance Series brings new works of theater, dance, and circus arts by Philly's performing artists and companies to unique venues in Mount Airy, Germantown, and other Northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Bowerbird - $989.00               
Bowerbird will present That Which is Fundamental, the first retrospective of Julius Eastman's musical work. Eastman was a gay African-American composer and performer in the 1970s and 80s. He died homeless at the age of 49, and this retrospective strives to provide more insight into his scores, recordings, and life.
Cinema Ray - $999.00               
Cinema Ray seeks to expand their free community screening to free weekly 2-hour art film workshops for elementary aged children. These workshops will introduce participants to the origin of movies by creating optical toys that led to films.
Creative Cataloging Japan - $884.00               
Collaborative Cataloging Japan provides archival and media preservation support to institutional and private collections of Japanese experimental moving image works produced from 1950s through 1980s, with the goals of documentation, preservation, and opening access internationally to these materials.
Crossroads Music - $909.00               
Crossroads Music presents concerts in West Philadelphia with goals of reviving lost genres, revitalizing traditional music with contemporary sensibility, and radical cross-cultural experimentation. Interactive workshops and children's programs are offered to audience members as hands-on experiences of the diverse offerings.
Culture and Language Program - $1,086.00           
The Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia educates the next generation of Cambodian children and youth about their heritage and traditional dances through their Culture and Language Program. Project Stream funding will support weekly dance lessons, cultural instructions, and performances for 15-20 elementary to high school children in 2016.
Curio Theatre Company - $1,047.00           
Project Stream funding supports CuriosiTeens! This innovative free program for teens in West Philadelphia is a company based class which culminates in a public performance for the West Philadelphia community.
Dance Iquail - $1,067.00           
Dance Iquail presents original dance works and community and educational programs that engage issues of social injustice. Dance Iquail will present Public Enemy, a community dance project by choreographer Iquail Shaheed that explores black male identity and the social issues that disproportionately affect black men,such as incarceration, policing, and radicalized violence.
Elizabeth Huston: A Change of Harp - $858.00               
A Change of Harp will present composer Mario Davidovsky's series of compositions entitled Synchromisms, placing each piece in its own space and creating a set to expose the character traits of that specific part of the whole, allowing the audience to explore.
Friends of Jackson - $1,038.00           
Friends of Jackson is a program Andrew Jackson Elementary School, a public elementary school located in South Philadelphia. The school's rock band, HOME, provides an opportunity for the students to rehearse and perform outside of normal school hours. Andrew Jackson's HOME band will perform an anticipated 20 free public performances during the 2016-2017 school year.
Grand Harmonie - $999.00               
Grand Harmonie is an ensemble based in Boston that promotes wind music of the 18th and 19th centuries. In March 2017, they will collaborate with the Philadelphia-based Franklin Quartet to produce Mozart in 1776.
Harmony for Peace Foundation - $970.00               
Celebrate Peace, Embrace Diversity is a concert put on by the Harmony for Peace Foundation that will take place at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA on United Nations Day.
Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Community Festival - $1,125.00           
The Annual Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Arts Community Festival brings together community members from all across West Philadelphia and the region at large for a day-long celebration of our city's rich jazz history and the continuing revitalization of the Powelton, West Powelton, and Saunders Park neighborhoods.
LaNeshe Miller-White: Theatre in the X - $2,178.00           
Theatre in the X will take place in Malcolm X Park in West Philadelphia in August 2017. Theatre in the X provides the people of West Philadelphia the opportunity to see professional quality theater in their neighborhood at no cost.
Laurel Hill Cemetery - $842.00               
Laurel Hill Cemetery will partner with REV Theatre Company to present site-specific and immersive productions of Hamlet in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Mascher Dance - $858.00               
Mascher Space Cooperative is a home for new performance in Philadelphia that provides space that is affordable and versatile, curates programming, and offers educational opportunities that make it an important node in Philadelphia's contemporary performance network.
Medium Theatre Company - $880.00               
The Medium Theatre Company is a Philadelphia-based ensemble, and Project Stream funds will support their 2016 production One Way Red.
Megan Flynn Dance Company - $931.00               
The Megan Flynn Dance Company will present a new outdoor performance A Piece of this Place: The Pop-Up Project. In this new piece, existing performances of the company will be reimagined for public spaces in the summer of 2017.
Melissa Cameron: Birds on a Wire Dance Theatre - $1,018.00           
Birds on a Wire Dance Theatre's mission is to communicate, express, and move people through the art of dance. Project Stream will support the development of BOAW's evening length dance theatre piece, In the Clearing.
Mighty Writers - $1,047.00           
Mighty Writers El Futuro Cooks is a three month long program, meeting weekly for students ages 10-13. Led by the Program Manager at Mighty Writers El Futuru, the aim of the program is to teach kids about instructional and narrative writing while incorporating both their culture and creativity.
Nora Gibson - $1,038.00           
The Dialogues is a dance performance choreographed by Nora Gibson that re-examines ballet and physics, and as a result, inspires new work and ways of thinking about ballet.
Philadelphia Asian American Film & Filmmakers - $1,096.00           
Project Stream funding will support the 2016 New Directions in Iranian Cinema Showcase. The film series demonstrates a variety of perspectives and identities that dispel the common stereotypes associated with Iran, and, in a broader context, Muslim countries in the Middle East.
Philadelphia Asian Performing Artists - $989.00               
Bi Jean Ngo seeks funding for a performance series of the Philadelphia Asian Performing Artists, whose mission is to enhance the presence of Philadelphia Asian performers by creating more opportunities for emerging Asian American performers.
Philadelphia Community Tap Project - $732.00               
The Philadelphia Tap Project, now entering its fourth year, is a free educational and performance opportunity which allows anyone the opportunity to learn how to tap dance and to participate in a rhythmic tap ensemble.
Philadelphia Dance Projects - $647.00               
The mission of Philadelphia Dance Projects is to support contemporary dance through projects that encourage artists and audiences to more fully participate and engage in the experience and pursuit of dance as an evolving form. PDP will put funding towards 3 productions of Yvonne Rainer's work in 2017.
Philadelphia Youth Dance Fest - $1,009.00           
The Philadelphia Youth Dance Fest is an annual pre-professional dance festival. It is designed to share, unite, and celebrate dance in a supportive and professional atmosphere for young Philadelphians.
Play On, Philly! - $1,115.00           
Play On, Philly! partners with Philadelphia schools to provide an educational and social preparedness program while developing high level musical knowledge and performance skills. This grant helps make their after-school music education and recital series possible and free to the public.
Power Street Theatre Company - $1,009.00           
Power Street Theatre Company will collaborate with the Norris Square Neighborhood Project on a joint project entitled Theatre en Las ParcelasLas Parcelas is an accessible theatre experience set in the community gardens of North Philadelphia.
Project Capoeira - $1,086.00           
Brazilian Day Philadelphia is a major festival of Project Capoeira, and 2016 will be the third year that it will be hosted at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing. The festival features Brazilian music and dancing, food and beverage, artists, and other hands-on activities.
RAIR, Inc. - $922.00               
The central mission of RAIR (Recycled Artist in Residency) is to create awareness about sustainability issues through art and design. RAIR is located in Northeast Philadelphia within Revolution Recovery, a 3.5 acre waste recycling facility, and it seeks support for the growth of the Special Projects program.
Revolution Shakespeare - $1,028.00           
Revolution Shakespeare is dedicated to bringing the variety and vitality of Shakespeare to communities in Philadelphia, and it creates accessible productions and educational programming. Each fall, Revolution Shakespeare presents a free production in Hawthorne Park, in addition to educational programming, readings, and community gatherings. This year, RS will produce King John.
Swim Pony Performing Arts - $951.00               
The End is an experience facilitated by Swim Pony Performing Arts that combines theater and game to engage audience members across the city of Philadelphia during May 2017.
The Halide Project - $1,028.00           
The Halide Project will curate an exhibit, Elemental, that is an educational photography exhibit featuring the work of a small group of photographers whose work exemplifies the forward momentum of contemporary chemistry-based practices.
The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium  - $951.00               
The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium will present The Chairs by Eugene Ionesco in September 2016. The Chairs explores themes of The Theatre of the Absurd, and it will be presented as a part of the Fringe Arts Festival.
The Lady Hoofers - $866.00               
The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble raises the profile of rhythm tap and provides opportunities for women to showcase their dance abilities. With funding from Project Stream, the Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble will commission a new work by Dolores Sanchez, a tap dancer and choreographer from New York City.
The Renegade Company - $970.00               
For the FringeArts Festival in September 2016, The Renegade Company will present Animal Farm to Table, a triptych performance project that explores food politics in Philadelphia through the lens of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel.
Theater Encore - $922.00               
Theater Encore is a theater company in Northeast Philadelphia created 24 years ago to create theater for Russian-Jewish immigrants. Theater Encore will premiere the romantic comedy Mixed Emotions in November 2016.
thINKingDANCE - $980.00               
thINKingDANCE will conduct Write Back Atcha workshops to engage audiences in writing about dance and critical responses to dance. WBA aims to broaden the reach of dance and dance writing centered in Philadelphia by offering the public the opportunity to engage in critical discourse and thinking about dance.
Tiny Dynamite - $960        
Tiny Dynamite has produced three seasons of the Philadelphia version of "A Play, A Pie, and A Pint." The one-act plays are served alongside a pie and a pint for a low-cost ticket at a non-traditional time of day. Season 6 of A Play, A Pie and A Pint will be presented at the Barnes Foundation and the Hamilton Family Arts Center.
Tribe of Fools - $960.00               
Tribe of Fools is an physical theater company founded in 2003 that features acrobatics, theater, dance, and choreographed fight scenes. This year's grant goes towards the production of "AntiHero II" which explores the connections between our ideals of masculinity, violence, and vigilantism using comic book superheroes.

The Project Stream and Program Stream grants initiative is made possible through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. They are funded by the citizens of Pennsylvania through an annual legislative appropriation, and administered locally by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional support for Project Stream is provided by PECO.
