Development and Membership Internship | Dates:  September 2019 - January 2020 | Hours: 15 hours per week, flexible. Unpaid | Reports to: Executive Director

The Development and Membership Internship Program provides students and beginning professionals with practical experience in running a community art organization. Our internship program provides the opportunity to learn about the operations of a non-profit art institution and the ability to work directly alongside our Executive Director and Exhibitions and Programming Director. As a membership organization whose mission is to foster community through art, Interns become an integral part of our close-knit community. Previous interns have gone on to work for Penn Museum, Bryn Mawr College, UPenn, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the National Jewish Museum. Most current team members at DVAA are former interns.  Some examples of responsibilities might include: 

  • Assisting with grant proposals for exhibitions and programs 
  • Coordinating mailings and email campaigns for exhibition donors and sponsors
  • Assisting with building event rental program 
  • Facilitating weekly membership renewal process
  • Outreach for new visual artist members 
  • Website development and content coordinator for membership program 
  • Outreach for Corporate Sponsorship for a new community arts festival in 2020 

 

Desired skills and experience

  • A collaborative spirit and generous sense of humor. Our working culture is horizontal and depends on a high degree of autonomy and communication. 
  • Basic knowledge of Philadelphia museum and arts programming communities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Passion for DVAA’s mission of building community through art
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once
