Position Summary:

The Director, Digital Content is a self-starter and idea generator who is creative, curious, inventive, and will play an integral role in launching a strategy to increase the Museum’s digital reach to further its mission.

 

This position will oversee the digital strategy and produce content that will deliver informal learning opportunities for Please Touch Museum member families, school groups, and beyond. In this newly created position, the Director, Digital Content will lead the infrastructure, planning, pre- and post-production, and delivery of digital content across mediums to reflect best practices. Situated in the Marketing & Communications department, the Director, Digital Content will work in collaboration with colleagues in Museum Learning and Community Programs & Inclusion to produce and distribute meaningful content.

 

Essential Functions:

Content Creation:

  • Work independently to concept, write, self-shoot and self-edit video content.
  • Leverage Museum intellectual property, experts, and exhibit experiences to conceptualize digital content that infuses play-based and social-emotional learning principles for multiple audiences.
  • Source external market research and collaborate with Museum colleagues on best practices to help inform content strategy.
  • Create and execute content creation workflow utilizing full Adobe Creative Suite
    • Pre-production: assess goals, develop content strategy, logistics and scheduling, scripting/storyboarding, talent prep
    • Production: manage and execute videography, lighting, sound, sets & props, talent direction
    • Post-production: editing, graphics/animation, accessibility/captioning, ensuring established brand standards are met
    • Distribution: publish content on digital platforms and track analytics to inform future strategy
  • Identify and mentor current staff to become talent for digital programming.
  • Stay current on latest trends and best practices.
  • Content may also be edited/repackaged for additional Museum needs such as B-roll, sizzle reels, in-gallery informational videos, special events, etc.

 

Studio Environment:

  • Using the results of an existing technology audit, the Director, Digital Content will source and procure production equipment including HD cameras, audio, lighting, etc.
  • Work with the internal team to build out and operate a brand-new in-house production studio. The work of this studio is central to a new business opportunity for the Museum which will also extend its mission in new ways.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of all video production assets.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demo reel/work samples are required as part of the application.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in television production, digital media, marketing, communications, film/video, media studies, or similar experience/field of study. 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience producing digital content.
  • Essential: skilled in producing content independently, including content strategy, scripting/storyboarding, videography, production, editing, distribution, and proficient in all Adobe Creative Cloud Suite products.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress/data asset management systems, as well as current social media platforms and emerging mediums for content distribution.
  • Experience producing live content is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional maturity.
  • Passion and infectious energy for digital engagement, especially with diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative energy to synthesize cross-departmental input to produce compelling content.
  • Current in digital engagement, content, and delivery best practices.
  • Comfortable with working in environments of cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Commitment to the latest digital accessibility standards
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and creative problem-solving ability
  • Must have PA Criminal History, FBI fingerprints, and PA Child Abuse Clearances. All background check clearances must be completed prior to hire.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for hire.

Education Level:
