Education Manager

Opera Philadelphia

Type of Employment: Full time, salaried, exempt

Compensation: $40,000- $45,000 annually

Reports to: Director of Community Initiatives

Manages: Teaching Artists, Apprentice Teaching Artists

Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Coordinate seasonal in-school programming evaluations
  • Maintain Tessitura databases for education programming (residency/opera on trial/opera in the classroom)
  • Manage in-school program payroll

In-school Program Coordination

  • Manage all in-school programs including working with teaching artists, evaluators, and volunteers
  • Lead in the creation of residency curriculum and structure
  • Manage communication between schools and teaching artists

Program Analysis

  • Assist in developing assessment methods with evaluators
  • Evaluate and observe teaching artists in the classroom as needed
  • Coordinate audio, video, or evaluative documentation of in-school programming
  • Coordinate focus groups for program evaluation
  • Assist in collect and analyse program evaluations to provide program statistical and analytical data for funding proposals

Community Programs

  • Work with Director of Community Initiatives to maintain and nurture relationship with school districts throughout region
  • Research to identify new school partnerships
  • Represent Opera Philadelphia at community and company events as needed

Skills Required:       

  • Strong cultural competency
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize jobs as they arise in order of importance while meeting deadlines
  • Superb organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and, attention to detail
  • Responsible, self-motivated, innovative, and able to work independently with little supervision and as a valuable team member
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional proofreading skills
  • Strong computer skills, especially in MS Office and Excel, and ability to learn computer programs quickly
  • Proficiency in Tessitura, Activity, Wordfly

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of opera
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or relevant teaching experience
  • Education or outreach experience preferred
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed
