Teen Lounge Teaching Artist

Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial

Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for our Winter 2020 term (January-February). Teen Lounge is a free, drop-in afterschool arts program providing young people ages 13-19 with opportunities to meet and collaborate with working Philly artists. We're looking for applicants excited about collaborating with teen students and centering their experiences, in a relaxed, affirming environment.

Students will be selecting 4 visiting artists for the term. Artists are compensated $600 for 4 two-hour sessions, with a supply budget of $150. Additional artists may be considered for 1- or 2-day workshop opportunities.

Your workshop proposal should offer young people an exciting opportunity to be introduced to a medium or explore a theme of relevance to this age group. Previous teaching experience is helpful but certainly not required. Experimental proposals are encouraged!

After submitting a proposal, artists attend a mandatory proposal review fair scheduled for Monday, November 18  to meet Teen Lounge students and present their project ideas -- students then vote to select which projects to run in the Winter term.

Workshops will be held once a week for four consecutive weeks, on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Up to 15 students attend Teen Lounge daily, from a variety of levels in art making experiences -- however, due to the drop-in structure of the program, the class group can vary from session to session. Please keep this in mind when designing your workshop.

Teen Lounge is a wheelchair accessible space.

Teen Lounge seeks to be an inclusive and generative space for youth and adults of all identities and backgrounds - people of color, women, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and others who may contribute to the diversification of ideas are strongly encouraged to apply!

To Apply

Please complete the Teen Lounge Request For Proposals submission form by Monday, November 4.
