#GivingTuesdayPHL

Thanksgiving...Black Friday...Cyber Monday, and now…#GivingTuesdayPHL

On December 3, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, nonprofit organizations across the nation will be participating in #GivingTuesday, encouraging their communities to give back during the rush of the holidays. The Cultural Alliance is encouraging members to consider a giving campaign on December 3, small or large, to bring attention to and encourage support for all the good the arts and cultural sector does for our community.

#GivingTuesday is a new and growing movement, started in New York two years ago. New York’s 92 Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, has been connecting nonprofit organizations and encouraging them to spread the word and create their own giving campaigns. The movement is having real success. Last year, over 2,500 participants from all 50 states. In fact, SalsaLabs, Inc., an online CRM for advocacy and donations, reports that clients who collected donations on #GivingTuesday in November 2012, did 170% better than those who also collected donations, but did not promote the day.

So, how can your organization be a part of #GivingTuesday? Here are a few simple steps to help you get started:

  • Begin promoting #GivingTuesdayPHL on your website, social media and emails. Help us get the word out, even if you are unable to do a project this year.

  • Consider a #GivingTuesday project - raise money for a special project, collect supplies for outreach, write letters to your representatives.

  • If you decide to do a project, register it at generocity.org/givingtuesday so more people can know about it!
