The festival showcases hundreds of artists and organizations—including Cultural Alliance members like The Colored Girls Museum, presenting “Say It Loud, I’m Black, and I’m Proud.”

In a new guest commentary for The Philadelphia Citizen, Cultural Alliance President & CEO Patricia Wilson Aden makes the case for stronger, sustained public investment in Philadelphia’s arts and culture sector. Building on Larry Platt’s recent column (opens in new tab), Aden looks to models in Pittsburgh and New York and explores how reliable funding can help cultural organizations retain workers, strengthen programming, and plan for the future. You’re Invited: cultural master plan webinar for arts & cultural organizations & businesses

Philadelphia now has a draft of its first Cultural Master Plan, which plans to reimagine how arts, culture, and creativity power our neighborhoods, workforce, and civic future. Pulling inspiration and findings from the  Cultural Alliance’s Cultural Dynamics report (opens in new tab) which included data from Community Conversations, the plan will help guide how our city invests in arts and culture for years to come.

Creative organizations and businesses are invited to join one of two 90-minute virtual sessions to learn about the plan’s four core policies and share feedback before it is finalized. Can’t attend the webinar? Register anyway to receive the recording and input questions.

The Greater PHiladelphia Cultural Alliance awards $150,000 t0 75 creative entrepreneurs in last round of the creative entrepreneur accelerator (CEA) Program

The Cultural Alliance has awarded $150,000 to 75 local creative entrepreneurs through the final round of the Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator. Since 2021, the program has supported 359 entrepreneurs with more than $700,000 in funding, helping creative businesses across Greater Philadelphia grow, innovate, and thrive. PA Creative Industries, along with Bridgeway Capital, will continue the Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator program in a new, centralized structure through Keystone Creatives (opens in new tab). Bloomberg arts internship (BAI) Celebrates Its Largest Intern Cohort Yet

This summer, 100 Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) students gained hands-on experience at 49 arts and culture organizations across Philadelphia—from longtime partners to new worksites like the Fabric Workshop. The program culminated at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, where interns shared reflections on their summer experiences. And the journey continues: 50 interns will participate in the Bloomberg Arts Internship School Year (BAI:SY) program, building on their skills, creativity, and connections throughout the year.

BY THE NUMBERS

New research from SMU DataArts (opens in new tab) comparing arts and culture sectors across 10 U.S. cities found that Philadelphia experienced the steepest decline in local arts funding per capita from 2019 to 2024—and its cultural organizations made the largest workforce cuts. Across the study, cities with higher or growing public investment generally saw stronger financial and attendance outcomes.

The findings helped fuel a recent conversation in The Philadelphia Citizen (opens in new tab) about the urgency of investing in Philadelphia’s cultural sector. For the Cultural Alliance, data like this strengthens our case for sustained public investment and helps us equip and mobilize the sector to advocate for the resources arts and culture need to thrive.

    It goes without saying that this is a challenging time for those of dedicated to the live performing arts. At People’s Light, a professional Regional Theatre located in Malvern, PA, their hearts are missing that frisson of live connection. However, they continue to be driven by their commitment to make theatre in a larger sense.  In their mission, People’s Light identifies itself as a cultural and civic center with theatre at its core. Positioned in this way, theatre is the stuff we can create, but also a way of generating space for ongoing civic engagement and dialogue with and for our communities. So while they can’t safely produce plays in this moment, their charge to use artistry and creativity for ongoing civic and community engagement remains. In this article, they offer ways that they have continued to make theatre at People’s Light since the pandemic has taken hold.

    One might think that remaining closed during the pandemic would mean quiet months. But for the team at Please Touch Museum (PTM), it’s been exactly the opposite. There is a ton of action behind-the-scenes as its team works to “Create the Future of Play” for the children of Philadelphia and beyond.
