Out of the Frying Pan and Avoiding the Fire: Hot Legal Issues for Nonprofit Arts Organizations

You're surviving the recession, but the tough decisions keep coming: How do you decide between staff restructuring and employee furloughs? What happens to the prop department during a merger? When do you call on your board-- and when do you call a lawyer?

Bring a board member, come for breakfast and learn from the experts whom to call, where to turn and what to do to safeguard your organization from legal backdraft.

We'll create a hypothetical arts-organization-in-distress (comprised of confidential questions you submit before the event) to be the center of discussion for our attorney panel from Deeb, Petrakis, Blum & Murphy, P.C.

Topics will include:

  • Employment-Furloughs vs. Layoffs; Rules of Termination
  • Financial and Real Estate-Leases and Facility Contracts
  • Organizational Restructuring-Debt Management and Your Options
