Tools for Rallying Audiences & Constituents around support for NEA, NEH, IMLS and CPB

Stage Announcement for NEA, NEH, IMLS and CPB

The performance you are about to see is just one example of the way art enriches our lives.  Arts and culture is part of what makes our nation great.   It inspires us, it makes us think, and it binds us together as a community when we gather, as you have today, to experience [theatre/dance/etc.].  But right now, the arts are threatened by the proposal to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Federal funding does three important things that are not replicated by other sources of support.

  1. It brings art and culture to people who would otherwise not be able to experience it.  25% of NEA block-grant funds goes to rural communities, and 54% supports programming in low-income areas.  NEA and NEH ensure that arts and culture is for everyone.
  2. Federal funding supports scholarship and research and preserves the collections of art, history and literature.  Often, NEA or NEH grants are seed money for the early work that attracts far more funding later for performances, exhibitions and public programs.
  3. Federal funding embodies our belief that great nations begin with ideas.  That innovation depends upon imagination and creativity.  The lessons of our history are critical to choosing the right path for our future.  We need theatre, music, museums and libraries.

Both conservatives and liberals know that there are things more precious than wealth – priceless values like love, honor, courage, dedication, compassion, faith, integrity and sacrifice.  The arts and humanities teach and reinforce these values.  We should not abandon them to save a tiny fraction of the federal budget.

I encourage you to tell your federal Senators and Representatives that you support the NEA, NEH, IMLS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  Thank you.Announcement for Educational Programs/Lectures/Tours

Signage for Exhibitions

Does this exhibition inspire you or make you think in new ways?  This museum and others like it bring the community together to learn and share experiences.  Right now, the arts are threatened by the proposal to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

[If possible, add a statement about how this particular exhibition/museum has benefitted from NEA, NEH or IMLS funding.]

If you believe that our nation needs the arts and humanities, please contact your federal Senators and Representatives to support the NEA, NEH, IMLS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Thank you.
