2015 - 2016 Project Stream Grantees

 

Congratulations to the 2015 Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Stream Grant awardees! This year, 98 projects from the Philadelphia region will be funded with almost $95,000 in grants through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' (PCA) Partners in the Arts program. An additional $15,000 in funding was generously provided by PECO. The average award this year is $1,120.

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is the regional partner administering the PPA Project Stream in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties with grants of up to $2,500 to eligible organizations and individuals.

2015-2016 Project Stream Grantees

 

Bucks County

Artists in Residence - $1,564.00     
Native American Storytellers is a program of Artists in Residence that will bring the art of Native American storytelling as well as clay techniques to students at Sndyer-Girotti Elementary School in Bucks County.
 
Borough of Yardley, Music on Main Concerts - $1,451.00 
Music on Main will provide 19 free acoustic public music performances in two locations in Yardley Borough over 6 months in 2015 - 2016.
Bucks County Performing Arts Center - $1,582.00     
The Bucks County Performing Arts Center is committed to enriching the cultural life of the community through performing arts' power to communicate, inspire, educate, and entertain. Their 2015-2016 performance "1807 & Friends" will include a community concert and an educational outreach component at two Bucks County elementary schools.
Cantus Novus - $1,620.00 
Cantus Novus is an auditioned 40-voice community chamber choir. The Cantus Novus 2015-2016 series will consist of 3 performances each of a December holiday concert program and a spring concert program.
 
Concordia Chamber Players - $1,657.00     
Concordia Chamber Players was founded in 1997 in New Hope, PA, to make affordable and quality classical chamber music available to the local community at least three times a year.
Fonthill Castle of the Bucks County Historical Society - $1,338.00
Fonthill Castle provides guided tours of Henry Mercer's home. Fonthill Castle was the home of Henry Mercer from 1908-1912, and it features Moravian tile-decorated walls, ceilings, and floors and is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles.
La Fiocco - $807.00     
La Fiocco is a performing arts organization dedicated to presenting music of the Baroque and early Classical eras on period instruments. "Music of Historic Philadelphia, 1625-1801" will focus on the music of early Philadelphia and include a pre-performance lecture on Federal era music traditions.
 
Palisades Community Chorus - $1,545.00     
Palisades Community Chorus will be performing Dvorak's Te Deum and Medelssohn's Psalm 42 with chorus and orchestra and seeks support for the performance in February 2016.
Quakertown Alive - $968.00 
Arts Alive! Is Quakertown Alive!'s annual juried art show. The show highlights emerging artists and performers in their event that takes place in downtown Quakertown. This year, Quakertown Alive will be partnering with New Vitae Wellness and Recovery and Art Z Studio to include artists who struggle with mental and chronic physical disabilities and use art as a rehabilitative activity.
Southampton Community Band - $1,225.00 
The Southampton Community Band performs an annual "Salute to the Armed Forces" concert in May, and the 2016 performance will feature upgrades to the music performed and signage displayed at the event.
 
Tim Farrell - $1,413.00     
The Stretched Strings Concert and Workshop Series is a performance and educations program dedicated to presenting a broad spectrum of music that expresses the pure beauty of stringed instruments with an emphasis on the guitar. Guest artists this year will include Macyn Taylor and StringSongs with resident artists Tim Farrell.
Youth Orchestra of Bucks County - $1,657.00     
The Youth Orchestra of Bucks County's community outreach program, Students-in-Concert Bristol Township Middle School Music Festival, is the culminating activity of an intensive, 7-month community outreach program for students in underserved communities.
 
 
 

Chester County

Ballet 180 - $1,272.00        
As a professional contemporary ballet company, Ballet 180 seeks to facilitate a 180-degree transformation in the lives of their dancers and the community by creating a positive platform for high quality artistry and service to society. This mission is fulfilled through Ballet 180, a contemporary ballet company and Move 360 community outreach initiatives.
 
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, Art Ability - $1,522.00           
Art Ability is a year-round program which serves as a showcase for - and celebration of - artists with disabilities. Its largest component is an international, twelve-week exhibition & sale of art.
 
Chester County Pops Orchestra - $1,492.00           
The Chester County Pops Orchestra is a 65-member orchestra centered in Chester County. They will perform "Holiday with Stars" in collaboration with multiple elementary schools in December 2015.
 
Chester County Youth Wind Ensemble - $1,218.00           
The Chester County Youth Wind Ensemble is an ensemble open to woodwind, brass, and percussion players in 6th-8th grades who reside in or near Chester County.
 
Coatesville Area Senior Center - $1,465.00             
Artist Marcia Gentry will partner with the Coatesville Area Senior Center and will teach fine arts classes to seniors.
 
Arts Holding Hands and Hearts - $1,849.00           
AHHAH organizes Monthly Expressive Arts workshops for Coatesville middle and high school students, and they feature activities led by a variety of teaching artists with the goal of community connection and engagement.
 
Oxford Area Senior Center - $1,291.00            
Since 2001, the Oxford Area Senior Center has offered professionally-taught painting classes to area senior citizens. The class is held once a week for 50 weeks of the year and provides a unique community class for the Senior Center.
 
Phoenixville Senior Adult Activity Center - $1,426.00
The Phoenixville Senior Adult Activity Center provides low-cost watercolor classes, taught by artist-in-residence Martin Pieczonka, to the senior citizens of the Phoenixville area.
 
Rhona Candeloro - $1,522.00           
Rhona Candeloro seeks support for her project "Playing with Color" that engages older adults from several regional senior centers in creative self-expression.
 
Street Road Artists Space - $934.00            
Street Road will engage with members of their community by exposing them to their current exhibition. Street Road artists will demonstrate their art-making methods during hands-on workshops with students from The Garage Community and Youth Center, as well as local schools.
 
 
 

Delaware County

Marcus Hook Preservation Society - $2,499.00     
The Marcus Hook Pirate Festival brings 18th century music, crafts, and artistry to the Marcus Hook community in Delaware County.
 

 

Montgomery County

ACPPA Community Art Center - $1,423.00     
Creative Afterschool Alternatives (CASA) is a program of the ACPPA Community Art Center that provides creative explorations in dance, music, visual arts, and theatre explorations to at-risk middle school students in Montgomery County. 
Borough of Lansdale, Music on Main Street Lunchtime Concert Series - $1,057.00     
Music On Main Street Lunchtime Concert Series consists of four free concerts held on Wednesdays at noon at Lansdale's downtown Railroad Plaza. The series features local and regional musical artists.
Lansdale Library Association - $1,323.00     
Lansdale Library has engaged the folk/world music duo Simple Gifts to come to the Montgomery community to play a concert for the general public and provide outreach to three seniors' residencies.
Maria Maneos - $1,194.00     
Brush With the Law is a prison art program that is conducted within the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in a semi-rural section of Eagleville, PA. The project uses visual art practices as a catalyst for positive transformation and self-expression for the inmates involved.
Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Norristown Riverfront Park Pop-Up Art Gallery - $1,224.00     
The Pennsylvania Environmental Council will collaborate with the Montgomery County Community College to create a temporary pop-up art exhibit in Norristown, PA., in Riverfront Park on the Schuylkill River.
Opera Libera, Inc. - $1,092.00     
Opera Libera, Inc., produces a fully-staged opera in Montgomery and Chester counties each summer.
Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival - $1,505.00     
Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival is a non-profit volunteer run film festival whose goal is to celebrate and elevate the Asian American experience through cinema.
 
Philomusica of Delaware Valley - $1,489.00     
Philomusica of Delaware Valley is a volunteer, auditioned chorus of 65 men and women, ages 15 to 84, that presents four major concerts each year and is led by artistic director Gayle Wieand.
Pottstown Dance Theatre Repertory Ensemble - $574.00     
"United" is a new dance concert from the Pottstown Dance Theatre Repertory with a focus on peaceful resolution of conflict.
 
Summertrios, Inc. - $1,026.00     
Summertrios is a non-profit educational chamber music organization that offers one-week residential music education programs for adult amateur musicians.
 
The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble - $513.00     
The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble will produce its first tap dance film, Dollar, that will be a narrative music video combining contemporary music with Broadway and rhythm tap.
 
Valley Choral Society - $1,174.00     
Valley Choral Society is a 70-member chorus celebrating its 32nd year. The Valley Choral Society conducts performances in Montgomery, Berks, and Bucks counties.
 
Valley Forge Chorale - $1,505.00     
Valley Forge Chorale will present its 6th Anniversary Christmas Program this December and is partnering with Tempo Music to adapt the concert for audiences with special needs.
 
White Pines Productions, Inc - $807.00     
"Story Toys" is an improvised theatre production by White Pines Productions that will be offered to four area schools during the 2015-2016 school year.
 

 

Philadelphia County

11th Hour Theatre Company - $670.00     
The 11th Hour Theatre Company will produce a new musical, Big Red Sun, by Georgia Stitt and John Jiler.
 
Adrienne Mackey - $749.00     
Cross-Pollination is a project of Swim Pony that encourages inspiration of and collaboration between artists of different disciplines.
Andrew Repasky McElhinney - $740.00   
Andrew's Video Vault is a free, once-a-month screening series at the Rotunda in West Philadelphia that screens orginal and unique video media.
Ann Adachi-Tasch - $596.00     
Connecting Archive & Research: Japanese Experimental Film & Video introduces rarely-screened Japanese experimental moving image works in the U.S. This year's inaugural season will include politically-engaged experimental films, showcase, recent preservation projects, and provide a platform for discussions by emerging & established scholars.
 
Anula Shetty - $686.00     
Time Lens is an interactive art project and a mobile application that features a series of interactive panoramas documenting the rapid gentrification of an urban neighborhood in Philadelphia.
APIARY Magazine - $678.00     
APIARY Magazine is a free biannual magazine publishing new writing by Philadelphia authors across the lines of race, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
Art Sphere Inc. -$767.00     
Art Sphere's mission is to engage the creative in communities, empower neighborhoods to explore the positives in peoples' lives, and heal the mind, body, and spirit through art. Art Sphere proposes to bring art into distressed neighborhoods by providing art workshops and art materials to low-income families who often lack these creative tool in their homes and schools.
ArtWell - $722.00     
ArtWell's Slam Poetry Team encourages students to learn poetry and spoken-word techniques through a mentorship and coaching program. ArtWell serves students from grades 7-10 from across Philadelphia.
 
Beacon Theatre Productions - $1,472.00     
Beacon Theatre Productions produces plays that shed light on historical events and give voice to influential genres. "Young Frederick Douglas" is their premiere piece of 2016.
Bowerbird - $838.00     
Bowerbird will produce "In Search of Eastman" that features the work of Julius Eastman, a gay African-American composer who was active internationally in contemporary music in the 1970s and 1980s.
Brat Productions - $471.00   
In September, Brat premieres THE LID, a British invasion rock spectacular about the possibilities and obstacles to a brighter future, at Underground Arts as a part of the Philly Fringe Festival.
BuildaBridge International - $883.00     
BuildaBridge's Refugee Project provides creative arts therapy and therapeutic art-making groups in community contexts for child, family, and adult refugees and survivors of torture through the Philadelphia Refugee Mental Health Collaborative and Philadelphia Partnership for Resilience.
Christopher Coyle - $514.00     
Outside Sound is a unique mixed-media project that uses artwork made by adults with disabilities as an inspiration for original music. In 2015, Outside Sound will partner with the Free Library of Philadelphia to offer a concert and art gallery event.
Crossroads Music - $776.00     
Crossroads Music presents concerts in West Philadelphia with goals of reviving lost genres, revitalizing traditional music with contemporary sensibility, and radical cross-cultural experimentation. Interactive workshops and children's programs are offered to audience members as hands-on experiences of the diverse offerings.
DISLABELED Philly Film Series - $793.00     
DISLABELED Philly Film Series is a monthly film screening in Philadelphia and presents disability culture through films, short movies, television, and other media in a fully inclusive, accessible environment.
 
Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion - $412.00     
Louisa May Alcott's Little Women will be translated into a period piece screenplay by Josh Hitchens, Creative Director of Victorian Theatre at the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion. The play will take play at the historic mansion in Philadelphia.
 

Federal Winds - $695.00     

Federal Winds will present "Passages: Wind Quintets through Philadelphia" in its 2015-2016 season. Federal Winds is a Philadelphia-based wind quintet and is devoted to accessible, live chamber music in unexpected public places.
Friends of Jackson - $535.00     
Friends of Jackson is a program Andrew Jackson Elementary School, a public elementary school located in South Philadelphia. The school's rock band, HOME, provides an opportunity for the students to rehearse and perform outside of normal school hours. Andrew Jackson's HOME band will perform an anticipated 20 free public performances during the 2015-2016 school year.
Harmony for Peace Foundation - $1,407.00   
 'Celebrate Peace, Embrace Diversity' is a concert put on by the Harmony for Peace Foundation that will take place at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA on United Nations Day.
Intercultural Journeys - $740.00     
Intercultural Journeys will present 2 performances by Lela Aisha Jones's FlyGround's "Native Portals". This residency places a teaching artist at Parkway NW High School for 10-week arts and social change residency.
Intercommunity Action Inc., Journey's Way - $508.00     
The Center at Journey's Way will add fabric arts classes to their lifelong learning program. A teaching fabric
artist will lead members in discovering self-expression and learning through an exploration of fabric arts.
Judith Sachs - $749.00     
Judith Sachs seeks to create an inter-generational dance experience by including both senior and youth dancers in her class series "Youth & Elder Dance Dynamic."
 
Individual    Khalil A.M.R. Munir     $704.00     
The Munir Project is a documentary film by performance artist Khalil Munir and filmmaker Malkia Lydia.
 
Lee Ann Etzold - $776.00     
PointBold: A Neighborhood Project is the effort of a collective of professional local artists to host performance events that offer their neighbors an opportunity to share stories, get to know each other, and talk about the future of two geographically close neighborhood that socially feel miles apart.
 
Lori Waselchuk - $749.00     
Windowishes is a site-specific street exhibition created for 7 storefront display windows in West Philadelphia. The project is conceived by Lori Waselchuk, and it highlights the importance of block captains and the traditions of neighborhoods as collective voices

Loudoun Abbey - $704.00     
Stenton Museum will produce "Loudoun Abbey: Inside a Constellation of Houses - The Untold Story of the Later Logans." "Loudoun Abbey" uses the Victorian Paper Theatre medium to convey this historical narrative.
Mascher Dance, Inc. - $776.00     
Mascher Space Cooperative is a home for new performance in Philadelphia that provides space that is affordable and versatile, curates programming, and offers educational opportunities that make it an important node in Philadelphia's contemporary performance network.
 
Melissa Cameron - $749.00     
Birds on a Wire Dance Theatre will select six new dance works to present in May 2016 as a part of their HATCH program. The HATCH program is a series that features emerging choreographers with the intent of enabling choreographers to make new work.
 
Michael Schmidt - $1,092.00     
Tribute: Music of Friends is a project established by cellist & pianist Michal Schmidt in 2007 to stage an annual full chamber music concert in Philadelphia featuring music written by her friends.
MJ Kaufman - $704.00     
Destiny Estimate is a play produced by MJ Kaufman in partnership with the ALS Hope Foundation, and it will highlight the difficulties suffered by those with the neurodegenerative disease.
Moonstone, Inc. - $731.00     
The Moonstone Arts Center will present at least 100 programs of poetry and other literary readings, including the 20th Annual Poetry Ink, in venues around Center City Philadelphia.
Music For All Seasons, Inc. - $820.00     
Music For All Seasons brings eight monthly musical programs to children living in the Philadelphia shelter for victims of domestic violence (Women Against Abuse).
Nichole Canuso Dance Company - $740.00     
CoPresence is an experimental dance production of the Nichole Canuso Dance Company, and it utilizes specially commissioned software to unite two dancers in separate spaces.
Olney Youth Arts Festival - $847.00     
Olney Youth Arts Festival is a half-day outdoor celebration that showcases diverse groups of young dance artists from a variety of Philadelphia neighborhoods. The celebration includes a resource fair featuring organizations that address health issues, youth engagement, arts education, and community improvement.
 
Orbiter 3 Playwright's Collective - $785.00     
Orbiter 3 is a playwright-producing collective in which the playwrights facilitate the productions of each other's work and mitigate the economic risk of producing new, relatively unknown productions.
 
Painted Bride Art Center, Revolution Shakespeare - $776.00     
Revolution Shakespeare is dedicated to bringing the variety and vitality of Shakespeare to communities in Philadelphia, and it creates accessible productions and educational programming.
Pamela Hetherington     $461.00   
 The Philadelphia Community Tap Project is an education and performance opportunity entering its third successful year. Twenty participants have the opportunity to learn and perform an original repertory piece from a master tap choreograhper. The opportunity is open to anyone over the age of 16.
 
People's Emergency Center, Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Community Festival -$767.00    
The Annual Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Arts Community Festival brings together community members from all across West Philadelphia and the region at large for a day-long celebration of our city's rich jazz history and the continuing revitalization of the Powelton, West Powelton, and Saunders Park neighborhoods.
 

Philadelphia Artists' Collective - $643.00     

In Spring 2016, the Philadelphia Artists' Collective will present He Who Gets Slapped by Leonid Adreyev in a new contemporary translation by Walter Wykes.
Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations - $802.00   
Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporation seeks support for its Third Space Initiative, a creative placemaking program targeted to neighborhood revitalization organizations that seeks to build community through the built environment using design, arts, and community engagement.
 
Philadelphia Waterborne - $865.00     
The Schuylkill Skiff Floating Mural Project is managed by Philadelphia Waterborne. This project provides specific educational, artistic, and skills training; and it provides community involvement opportunities for Philadelphia middle and high school students in under-served neighborhoods.
 
Philadelphia Youth Dance Festival - $722.00   
The Philadelphia Youth Dance Fest is an annual pre-professional dance festival. It is designed to share, unite, and celebrate dance in a supportive and professional atmosphere for young Philadelphians.
 
Play On, Philly! - $749.00     
Play On, Philly! partners with Philadelphia schools to provide an educational and social preparedness program while developing high-level musical knowledge and performance skills.
 
PRISM Quartet, Inc. - $829.00     
Composition for Kids is a program of Prism Quartet that consists of 6 outreach services at the Northwest Regional branch of the Free Library and serves economically disadvantaged elementary school students as a part of its sustained cultural engagement.
 
Project Capoeira - $678.00     
Brazilian Day Philadelphia is a major festival of Project Capoeira, and 2015 will be the second year that it will be hosted at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing. The festival features Brazilian music and dancing, food and beverage, artists, and other hands-on activities.
 
Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) - School Play - A Collaboration with the Theatre Community of Philadelphia - $678.00     
Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) will partner with leading members of the theatre community in Philadelphia in an innovative staging of School Play, a new documentary theatre play commissioned by PCCY and created by theatre artists to dramatize the repercussions of the public school funding crisis in Pennsylvania.
 
RAIR, Inc. - $731.00     
The central mission of RAIR (Recycled Artist in Residency) is to create awareness about sustainability issues through art and design. RAIR is located in Northeast Philadelphia within Revolution Recovery, a 3.5 acre waste recycling facility.
 
Real Live People - $686.00     
Real Live People is a Philadelphia-based dance company that explores human experiences through firsthand stories and unspoken gestures. This season's productions include a collaboration with Baltimore's Deep Vision Dance Company and Washington D.C.'s Rebollar Dance Company.
 
Richard Allen Memorial Sculptural Courtyard - $758.00     
The African Methodist Episcopal Church is commissioning a non-sectarian public sculptural project that will strengthen the African-Amiercan voice in Philadelphia's visual landscape. The sculpture will memorialize Richard Allen, a prominent 18th century orator, author, and black preacher in Philadelphia.
Simpatico Theatre Project - $758.00     
Simpatico Theatre Project's community outreach program, THE BRIDGE PROJECT, is a direct response to the cuts in funding for the Philadelphia school district. In 2015-2016, Simpatico's BRIDGE PROJECT will focus on its annual flagship production and its corresponding community outreach that serves hundreds of students in Philadelphia's public schools.
 
Simple Gifts Folk Music     $767.00     
Simple Gifts Folk Music is a project of the Center for Contemporary Mysticism that offers the community a two-day educational, multicultural program that focuses on folk and world music.
 
Philadelphia Dance Projects, Tangle Movement Arts - $793.00     
Tangle Movement Arts's new production, The Girl's Guide to Neighborly Conduct, is a dynamic new circus-theater show featuring their aerial dance theater troupe that will premiere during the 2015 FringeArts Festival.
 
Team Sunshine Performance Corporation - $762.00     
The Society of Civil Discourse is a collaboration between Team Sunshine Perfromance Corporation and the Philly Pigeon Poetry Slam. This will be a two-part production that celebrates the art of opinions and showing off oratorically.
 
Termite TV Collective - $678.00     
Termite TV's mission is to work collaboratively as artists to create a space to experiment and further the language of video and television, and to create multi-faceted and multi-voiced shows which address issues of cultural, political, and aesthetic concern. "Waste" is a half-hour video collage with the work of 8 Philadelphia artists exploring the theme together.
 
The Wilma Theater, The Bearded Ladies - $820.00     
Atomic Family Cabaret is a year-long theatrical exploration of queer American family by The Bearded Ladies theater group.
 
The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium  - $785.00     
The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium will present the Philadelphia premiere of Eugene Ionesco's absurdist masterpiece, Exit the King.
 
The Resource Exchange - $793.00     
The Resource Exchange is a nonprofit reuse center dedicated to promoting creative reuse, recycling, and resource conservation.
 
The Soapbox Independent Publishing Company - $604.00     
Pulp as Transformation connects artists and under-served communities through a series of workshops in papermaking and printmaking arts.
 
The Stagecrafters Theater - $684.00     
In 2015-2016, Stagecrafters Theater brings the process and products of live theater to secondary school students using John Steinbeck's classic drama "Of Mice and Men."
Tribe of Fools - $704.00     
Tribe of Fools is an acrobatic theater company founded in 2003. Acrobatic theater is a fast-paced style of performance that incorporates acrobatics, theater, dance, and choreographed fight scenes.
Usiloquy Dance Designs - $678.00   
Usiloquy Dance Designs will perform their Indian Classical Dance work 'Ragas and Airs' at the Irish Center and the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians to discover the rich danced and musical heritage of the Celtic nations.
 

The Project Stream and Program Stream grants initiative is made possible through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. They are funded by the citizens of Pennsylvania through an annual legislative appropriation, and administered locally by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional support for Project Stream is provided by PECO.
