Developing a Communications Plan (Instructed by Michael Smith, PhD)
Event Website
In the classic movie “Cool Hand Luke,” Paul Newman's character is having a dispute with a prison guard who says, “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” Most nonprofits don't necessarily have a failure to communicate; however, many suffer from the lack of a strategic, intentional approach to their communication, one that builds relationships and maximizes marketing efforts. Participants in this class will learn how to create a comprehensive communication plan, from assessing communication or marketing needs to designing communication strategies and tactics. A good communication plan helps build relationships with key publics, including volunteers, donors, and the media, and this class will provide a thorough overview of how this is done.
