Cultivating Success: Managing Staff to Succeed for Your Mission and Themselves

February 29, 2012 - 4:00am

It is a truism that the most important asset for any non-profit organization is its staff and volunteers. However, in an environment where NPOs do not have the financial resources to reward their staff in the same way that is possible in for-profit companies, it can be a challenge to keep good staff and to grow staff motivation.

It is a truism that the most important asset for any non-profit organization is its staff and volunteers. However, in an environment where NPOs do not have the financial resources to reward their staff in the same way that is possible in for-profit companies, it can be a challenge to keep good staff and to grow staff motivation.

In this session, Cameron Voss, Deputy Director and Sherri Wilcauskas, Director of Institutional Giving at Children's Literacy Initiative (CLI), will explore the ways that strengths-based management techniques can be used as an approach to staff supervision and motivation.

Cameron and Sherri will share insights about how CLI has been using a strengths-based approach to transform its supervisory and corporate culture: both to increase staff morale and to allow CLI to be more mission-focused. They will also talk about how a strengths-based approach can be used within an individual supervisory relationship, within the development department, and across an entire organization.
